I have been so bad today. I feel starved and I just gave in. I NEVER drink my carbs till today. I drank a glass of milk and I had 2 glasses of apple juice. I think I must be getting sick. I always want apple juice when I am sick. However...still disappointed in myself. I know I should not of had it....but....it was soooo good. :(

Consider it as a reward for being good, and enjoy it!
Then you will be set up to continue on the good ways

Actually my BS was well behaved today. I was so happy when I checked it and it was well within normal. It was nice to catch a break. I was so mad at myself...but that juice sure was good. Thanks for the replies!

Just a thought ~ could you, as a type two, enjoy a small glass of juice daily? Like 1/3 of a cup? How much would that small amount affect your blood sugar? If you love juice, it would be nice to be able to incorporate it into your daily diet. I think that if you knew that you were *allowed* to enjoy a small glass daily, you'd be less likely to splurge on a lot at one time. Just like with any restriction, the more you tell yourself that you can't have something ~ the more you crave it! (darn it!) Cheers.

It is perfectly fine to enjoy the foods you used to love. You just have to take them in moderation. I don't think you'd have much problem drinking an 8 ounce glass of your favorite juice on a daily basis. You just have to find a way to fit it into your current daily carb allotment. You may need to cut back a bit on a mid-day carb snack (just make it a protein snack, like nuts!).
Now, my question... if nuts are good for you, then why can't we enjoy the heck out of donuts? LOL.

If you are counting carbs then a "liquid carb" counts the same as a "solid"...you are type 2, so you may only need about 4 oz. of juice. Remember to look at the carb serving size...a glass of juice doesn't tell anything and if anything...is oversized.
I know there are "diets" out there that say don't drink your carbs...but as far as glucose goes...a carb is a carb. You may feel a liquid faster, but carb count is the same as anyother carb serving.

I love juice when I am not feeling well. I pretty much can count on one hand how often I have had juice in the last year. I know I can have almost anything with moderation. I just do not want to waste carbs on juice when I could have a potato instead. LOL Thank you so much for you reply and support. It means so much.

Yeah why can't we have doughnuts! LOL How about doughnuts with nuts? hehehehe
I have 8 ozs of milk and almonds for breakfast almost every day. Do you have some suggestions for mid-day protien snack? I usually crave carbs at night. SIGH
Thanks for replying and making me laugh! I appreciate it!

You know juices are not all the same either when it comes to carbs. Like Cranberry juice has more carbs than apple. I recently had a kidney infection and the doctor told me to drink some cranberry juice. I told her I was not wasting my carbs on juice...let alone one that had so many carbs in it. My blood sugar is pretty controlled but I do not want to waste my carbs on a beverage when that carb exchange could of been sweet chili sauce on my avacado roll or a small baked potato.
Thanks for replying and sharing with me. I appreciate it very much.

We all explode once in awhile. I just have to work on not feeling so guilty about it! What is your favorite kind of choclate?

Hey Michelle. Hope you're feeling better. I know what you mean about missing juice...haven't had a glass since diagnosis (8/31/06). I've read that its much better to have the fruit (with peel), as the juice is sugar and empty calories....but I miss it. As for orange juice, I remember giving it to my mom when her blood sugar would drop too much when she was on insulin, so I knew that it couldn't be good for me at this point. I do enjoy the occasional apple, 1/2 banana or cantaloupe without problems though.
One thing i've found that is quite good if you like apple juice is the Walmart brand water add-in, apple flavor. It looks and tastes JUST LIKE apple juice (or the way I remember it anyway;) ) but has no sugar or carbs or calories. Look for it next time you're there.
Diet Ocean Spray or Diet V8 Splash. Only 2 or 3 carbs per serving (8 oz.) They both taste great.

Right on, Wolf. I love V8. It's good tasting and good for you. :)

Yes, juices will all vary in their carb count...but those carbs are counted the same as other carbs....watch the serving size...that's really surprising to most people who pour their own juice servings.
I did buy the diet cranberry juice last week, but haven't had the urge to drink. Did we ever find out if the Diet had the same benefits as the regular, very sweet juice?
I guess when I think of juice, I never consider the sugar added juice...I'm more likely to drink fresh squeezed or similar. The idea of corn syrup in my juice is almost nauseating.

Walmart? What is Walmart? We have no stinking Walmart in Guam. ROFL One of the things I look forward to when we move back to the U.S. is having options when it comes to shopping. Actually fresh veggies....mmmmmmmmmm there will be alot of things I miss about Guam though too. Thanks for making me giggle! I appreciate your support.

When you actually start to measure all your foods it quite an eye opener. I have some antique juice glasses. They were my grandmothers. One set is 8 ozs and one set is 4 ozs. I do not have to think about measuring my milk in the morning. I can just grab my glass. I measure out my almonds I have for breakfast every day. What is suprising..is a year ago.... a cup of rice or pasta felt like I was going to starve myself. Now.....sometimes its to much. Measuring works...... Thanks for sharing!

I lost 10 pounds in six months by swapping fast food lunches for soup in the office. That is all it took. When you figure a fast food lunch is 1000 calories easily and a can of soup is 250, that is a drop of a lot of calories each week.
But, I sure am tired of canned soup.

What about something like sushi or veggie wraps for lunch? I love those so much. I have avacado wraps made here. I love soup but I imagine you can burn out on soup after awhile. Tuna salad could be a nice alternative. What kind of foods do you like to eat? Thanks for sharing your success story!

I can not get people to send me coupons here let alone a care package! LOL Its not that bad. My choices can be limited but I think it could be alot worse.

I have to start measuring. I will check the yard sales this spring to see if I can find me a 4-ounce, 6-ounce and an 8-ounce glass. That makes it sound so simple.
I hate to mess up so many things when I preparing food since I have a tight morning schedule with getting my grand-daughter to school by 7:15 a.m. and then getting to work by 7:45 a.m. Since we get home after 5:00 p.m. I am usually too tired to think about measuring things. I guess I am too lazy. But being able to just grab the right size dish could make my life simpler.
