After much movement in my insulin requirements they've settled down to 20g/IU for lunch and 10g/IU the rest of the time. I can't figure out why. I have a desk job so I don't think it's activity level. What else could it be?

I don't know but my son is the same. He takes the most insulin at breakfast, and the least at lunch.

Thats the Dawn Phenomenon. We are are more insulin resistant in the morning than during the rest of the day. With me, this lasts until about 11am, after which I become a lot more insulin sensitive. I become somewhat more insulin resistant again in the the late afternoon. This effect was very noticeable when I was fine tuning the basal rates for the pump I trialled.

I take my Lantus in the morning...therefore, in about 4 hours, or just before lunch...I'm on 100% Lantus basal...whereas, the few hours after injection is just the warm-up period. (Lantus takes 4 hours to hit 100% action)...so, are you just feeling your basal level out...and if so, is your basal a tiny bit too much?
Just a thought...

I take my Lantus at night before bed. Only 6 units of it too and it holds fine over night. I do know about dawn phenomenon but this effect kicks in in the afternoon and lasts until about 11am. Cortisol and HGH are responsible for down phenomenon and neither have a 24 hour graph that might cause that. One for the endo next month I think.
