Is TVP ok for diabetics to eat? TVP is texturized vegetable protein. Thanks!

I'd say not only is it OK, I would think it is actually quite healthy! I wonder if I could find it in my area - I'd like to try it out.

I get it at a local food coop. I guess my best ideas involve mixing it with other stuff to add texture and bulk. You can mix it with seasonings and condiments to make burgers and such too.

TVP is made from soy, and as such it is a complete protein. Soy apparently provides other health benefits, but some of them are dubious. I am not so sure about the phytoestrogens, especially for men. I found that I was unable to build muscle when I was using soy protein shakes after workouts, and that this problem went away when I switched to whey protein shakes. The fact that you get no fat with TVP is also a problem for me. I get 65% of my calories from fat and want to keep it that way.

I am always wary of processed food. In spite of what the experts say, the implications of changes made to these foods are not fully understood. This is why I think animal protein is a healthier choice.
