Well here goes...I've been thinking about this for a few days now and wondering if this is a cosher thing to ask but I am wondering if any of you have upgraded your pump and have an old one laying around that you'd be willing to lend...not give...just lend for a while. I'm heading to the endo's on monday of next week (feb 4) to discuss pumping. I think I'm going to try it given the busy-ness of my life right now and that I'm loosing some of my control (numbers are swinging right now). However, I have noticed here on the forum that there are quite a few who try and then decide that it's not for them and stop pumping. A pump will set me back 1200-1600 dollars for my 20% share. I am worried about shelling out that much money and then finding I hate pumping. I am wondering if I can try it out with an old pump and then if I love it I can return the loaner and shell out the money for one. If I hate it, I will return it with nothing lost. I'm willing to pay all shipping and handling charges. Anyway, I don't know if I'm way out of my league asking this...if so, please don't be offended. I just thaught it was worth a try. Thanks

Can you not contact the pump companies and ask for trials? I think most will let you have thier pump for a week to make sure you like it.
I'd be more worried about liability of giving a pump to someone without proper training.

I'd still go through all the training...not going it alone....I'm not that crazy:o I didn't know that they will lend you one....this is news to me. I will definately ask them.....it's just alot of money for something I'm not sure about and something that alot of people seem to back out of after a very short while. I guess it's just a comitment phobia for pumping.

Maybe if someone was able to help you out, they could ship the pump to your doctor? I'd imagine that would help absolve them (person lending) of liability and the fact that pumps and sets are RX only items.

I had two pump companies loan me a pump for trial. Idid not pump insulin because idid not know what my basals would be or carb to insulin levels. This took a good solid month to really get a handle on this. The week I had it ijust used it like I was pumping and got to know the pumps. It made me more comfortable with it when Ifinally got one. Ask the pump reps if they have a loaner to try.

I would ask the pump reps for a loaner. Also, all of the companies give you 30 days to return it if you don't like it.
