Don't know what type of Diabetes I have

I am 54 female, and have had diabetes for 30 years. I have being trying to control it by diet.

My Gastro just ordered my family doctor to get me on Insulin, because of NASH, and not because of allergies to most medication that have sulfa, sulfites, sulfates, and sulfer derivatives.

Can anyone tell me which diabetic I am. Long time ago I was told I had problem with my pancreas(sp) and it's ability to handle insulin.

Wondering now if diabetes never under control and has caused major health problems.

Gastro wants strict control of my diabetes.

Ask your doctor.

Your doctor would have to order a C-Peptide to determine how much insulin, if any, your pancreas is producing.

All I know at the moment is I am going on insulin. I can't go on anything that will cause my liver enzymes to rise and my NASH to worsen. Also most pills are out because of my allergies to sulfa, sulfites, sulfates, and sulfer derivatives.

If you've had diabetes x 30 years and managed to control it without insulin, i'd assume you're type 2...only now you'll be a type 2 on insulin.

Thanks Linda, I was thinking that my diabetes was type 2 and now on insulin. I don't agree that it was controlled well becasue this NASH says otherwise.

See my doctor on 22nd, unless he contracts me sooner. It all depends how fast Gastro gets back to family doctor, with her diagnoses summary.

For you to control it by diet you must be type 2. You wouldnt have lasted without insulin if you are type 1

I also believe that you're a Type 2, but it wouldn't hurt to have a C-Peptide blood test to find out how much insulin your pancreas is producing.
