View Full Version : Leaking Novopen 3
Heya guys!
I went to take my insulin pen out of it's case yesterday and there was insulin everywhere! I rang the Dr to get hold of a new one because I can't risk it going faulty and giving me incorrect doses but has anyone had a leak like this before?
I had left a needle tip on the pen which is where it must have leaked from but I do that all the time and I've never had it leak before... bit odd anyway.

Ive had a NovoPen 3 and NovoPen 3 Demi (currently using), ive never had a leak, both very reliable pens as far as i can tell. Hope you manage to get a new one quickly ;)
It's been a long time since I've used a pen, but as I recall, you're not supposed to leave a needle on because it can cause it to leak or get air bubbles inside the catridge due to temperature and pressure changes. That said, I'd have probably done what you did, and called the doc for a new one. Better safe than sorry- hope you've got a new pen by now!
Funny you should post this, as my Novopen 4 just leaked out 200 units in 1 day!
I went to open the pen top and was covered in it... then I replaced the needle and had to crank the plunger up , I thought it must be the vial at first, but could find no leak.. Next time I went to use it, same thing... then I remembered that the night before I went out and came home to an 11.6, thought it was miscalculating on my part, but in retrospect wonder if it delivered my dose.. anyway...changed the pen...
I had it in my pocket the day before and think I might have partially sat on it..so prolly my fault!

Oh gosh that must have been smelly:eek: Insulin really stinks:( Sometimes i even feel the one or 2 units coming out when doing an airshot is too much:eek:
I've never had a problem with leaking novopens *touch wood* but i did have some problems with a prefilled lantus pen once not long after diagnose... I used Optiset then...
