:) Hello I just want to introduce myself . I was diagnosed with Diabetes in 1982 at the age of 21. I was put onto insulin straight away.(not the oral hypoglycaemics then like there is today) Insulin helped me put evan more weight and of course the more weight I put on the more insulin I needed.
In the 1990s I started metformin. last year I ditched the actrapid and protophane For Humolog and Lantus My Hb1c improved
Yesterday I commenced on Byetta.Over here it is not cheap. I was told to shop around. We have 4 chemists in town and I rang them all. The price ranged from $187.50 to over $300.00:) Certainly pays to shop around. I'm hoping for some good results. My husband thinks I will grow a forked tongue and start eating insects.
I'd love to hear from anyone who is using Byetta or who has a simular story to me Bye for now from Alicat61

Are you in Australia and in NSW? You should be able to get your meds on the PBS Because I do and I am in Melbourne. :D

LOL You would start looking in the dead insect tray in those insect traps. :T

I have herd that Byetta is not an insulin as it is works along side with metaformin. Please correct me if I am wrong.
Have a read on the Byetta (http://www.byetta.com/patient/byetta_faq_150.jsp#likeInsulin) and see that it may work for you. ;)

Welcome.

I find it very od that you were prescribed Byetta. I thought it was not prescribed to insulin dependants. I are one, so I don't know much about it. What kind of doctor do you see? I hop it's an endocrinologist.

Hi Ant hill
Thanks for your reply
I get all my other meds on PBS But Byetta is not on the PBS list yet.(hopefully soon) If it helps weight loss you would think the goverment would be happy for people to use it.
Byetta is not an insulin but helps the pancreas(Beta cells) make insulin. So as long as you have some Beta cells left it
Helps to reduce the need for insulin. So hopefully it will work.Plus hopefully I will lose some of the extra kilos I carry.I guess insects don't have many calories LOL.
Bye for now Alicat61

Hi xMenace,
Thankyou for your reply I am on insulin but still produce some of my own insulin. So hopefully byetta will help me use less insulin as well as help me lose weight.
I have a very good G.P. and diabetic educater. I am also a Registered nurse . So read a lot and have attened courses about diabetes. I read about Byetta in Diabetes Australia Conquest magazine and mentioned it to my Diabetes Educater.I then went to My GP and asked her about it . She hadn't heard of it but read up about it. It is a learning curve for us all.Now I have the pharmacist also wanting to know about it all. all quite exciting.Bye for now from Alicat61
