I'm just diagnosed yesterday with type 1 diabetes. I'm friend of UpNorth. She made me join here, but my english is not good so most likely she will have to help me to read and post here, when she is around.

I'm very scared of needles, so when my friend said i might be diabetic, it came as a big shock to me. I used to not be able to watch her taking bloodtest or injection, and now i have to do it too. But after trying it, i think it is not as bad as i believed it would be. Maybe i can learn this after all... I have to:eek: :(

Anyways... Hi:T

Welcome Elina! Sorry your were diagnosed, but glad you found the forums.

I was always VERY needle shy myself, but after the first few times, you'll be like an old pro. I don't take insulin, but do take Byetta shots twice daily and the shots are virtually painless. Its just getting over the initial anxiety.

The most important thing to remember is you're stronger than you think you are... and you can learn to successfully manage your diabetes. Hope you will post often, ask lots of questions. There are lots of great people here willing to help you.

Take care,
Linda

Elina,

Welcome! Your friend UpNorth is a great friend -- she was very concerned about you. I'm so happy you have already come to this place. Your English is not bad at all -- don't let that keep you away. Before long, those needles won't bother you. You will feel so much better taking the insulin, that the prick won't be a big deal. The first time I had to stick the needle in my leg, it took about 30 minutes to work up the courage. Welcome!

I am trying to take my injections, but sometimes when I don't have time to just sit and wait until I feel I can do it, I let my friend do it for me and look away:o It happened at lunch today, and I am using 6mm needles, I just couldn't put that needle in my abdomen... But I am surprised how little I feel the needles:eek: I believed it would hurt:o I am feeling a little bit better today, my bloodsugar is going down and it feels good to know why I feel odd!

Thank you for the welcome everyone :)

Hi and welcome to DF. Your English is not bad at all. Who knows, it may even improve with all the practice you'll be getting now!

I'm glad you could join us but sorry you have reason to.

Elina, Hello and welcome to DF! Your english is just fine, No worries there. You have come to the right place. I was hesitant about giving myself shot as well. But the nurses in the hospital wouldn't leave me alone until I did it. Soon after that I was injecting like it was nothing. Just takes a bit of getting used to.
Hang in there. And welcome aboard.

Welcome Elina,

Your fear of needles won't last long. ;) I'm glad you found this place. It is a great place to learn. I hope you also get to go to classes though, as professional help is important.

Good luck.

I have gotten some basic training today when I met the diabetes nurse at the local medical clinic. I am still a chicken with the needles, but I think I might get used to it:o Watching videos on youtube now with hope to feel less scared about everything after that. Seeing how well my friend manage it, and hear her words of encouragement along with her help when I simply can not do something, is also a huge help, but she can not really help me overcome my fear of the needles because she was never scared of them, so she doesn't know what it is like to fight the fear:eek:

Woooo my Elina has been posting while i was sleeping and studying some :D I helped her getting started here before :T

Folks, i'm really proud about how well she's taking all this! I haven't needed to help her much with testing and injecting, other than the lunch injection.

And Elina... Enjoy the forums! And your english is not poor:mad: :T (She's sitting next to me) :T
