I am 18 and have been type 1 since I was 5 and well the last time I went to hospital it was my first time at the adult clinic and the doctor did my a1c and it came back at 12.0 that was probably the first time my a1c was that high it was normaly very good but my diabetes just got really bad where I couldnt be botherd. I then had an appointment in November but I never went to it so then they sent me another one through for Febuary 28th which I am going to go to this time. My bloods have not been good at all the past 2 years because I was on a college course which I didnt like so I was really stressed out but this month I have finally got them back to normal and they have been great in Febuary so far but I am just scared that when I go to hospital at the end of this month my a1c is going to be high and the doctor gave me a really hard time last time when it came back at 12.0

Don't worry! As long as it is lower than last time, just be happy :) I have been running pretty good results lately, but i know my next checkup will be real ****ty due to the fact that i was running a bit high around christmas:o and have been through a lot of stress through most of january and also having a cold in that period, which in my case means running with numbers waaaaaay over where i want it to be:mad: I have been in the 20's a lot too:eek: My last hbA1c was in the 5's, this time i'll be happy if it's below 10:( I'm due to have it done this thursday:eek:

I would rather know that my bg level is all out of whack, sure I would feel bad but I would feel better for knowing. At least then you know what to do about it ;) You can’t hide from every bit of bad news that comes your way. Think about it this way when your hard work finally pays off you will want something to show for it? So you might as well get a starting point, otherwise how can you know where you left of? ;) Every journey has a start and an end.

There is nothing worse than the feeling of being afraid to go to the doctor for that reason. Walk in and simply be honest. Describe what you have and have not been doing, and see what he/she has to offer to help. When I have spurts of poor control, I like to make a check up appt 1 month later, instead of 3. That helps me. Good luck!

Hello Jodie, Gee I feel your sorrow and wondering if your doctor is in fact an Endo. Diabetes is a disease that has a lot of influences to your BG level and to understand what can we do to keep a happy medium. And we refer to our meters as a window to see an even keel to our control. How often do you test in a day? I get to do 10 - 12 a day as a lot of it is though curiosity. Foods is another thing that we learn about and the understanding that how to Bolus for that amount of carbs that's in that and it's a hit or miss affair. Don't be too worried on your next appointment as you would have to understand what to do. ;)

:) Hi Jodie,
I can understand how you feel about going back to the clinic. I often have bad Hb1c's I have had the clinic sisters say things like Oh another BAD DIABETIC I had an Endo basically tell me I was the worst Diabetic he had seen Yet when I lost a bit of weight I was the best!! I haven't been back to him.
I'm lucky that I have a very supportive GP and Diabetes Educater.I'm sure I frustrate the **** out of them sometimes. They never give up on me though.
My advice is to go back to your clinic and It may not be as bad as last time.(It's a shame that your first experience at an adult clinic was bad) They should be looking at the big picture not just your levels . Work out ways to help you get back on track .
Do you have a choice of changing clinics if you are not happy with the next visit.
Keep us up to date on how you get on.
Try not to let the doctors attitude get you down.

Don't beat yourself up, Jodie. Be honest with your doctor when you see him/her on the 28th and then work from there to get your A1c down. Good luck!
