The other day i was reviewing my daily totals and found a new record. I had a high blood sugar that day and ended up taking 85.5 units of insulin. This is the most I've ever taken and i think it would be beneficial to hear the most all of you have taken in a single day.
So whats your daily record?

I typically do about 70 to 75 per day, but 100+ isn't unheard of. The biggest is around 130.

I have been VERY insulin resistant lately and it has went over 90 a couple of times in the last few days. I am also fighting a cold, so I am sure that is the other underlying cause.

The most ever was the day dh and I went out for our birthday... it was 134.02! I blame that on the Big Mountain Fudge Cake at Black Angus...
I also kinda celebrated all that day, so there's my excuse.
I didn't do badly on Thanksgiving or Christmas, surprisingly!

I think my most was in the high 70s once. Generally I stay in the low 50s. Last week I had a 68 and that really set me off because I knew about 15 units of that was just from chasing a high down.

32. And about 7 units of that went out the bent cannula.

22 units, I was chasing a high that day.
Which may seem like not much but I eat low carb and exercise a lot.

Ummm....well........how about 750u.....I was bad that day....carrot cake.....brownies......etc.
Normally around 450u a day is normal for me. Can you spell high resistance?

I average 20-25 units a day. Last June when I was on my Alaskan cruise (and around all that wonderful food)...... I was pumping 35-40 units a day.

My highest ever in history was 19.6 on January 4th. Must have had an exceptionally stubborn high or probably a bad site. My usual TDD is between around 11 and 17.
w5wJPjp I can't even imagine using as much insulin as you do a day!! 450 units would last me over a month. LOL

Yes Jan, you read that right. I believe he has the reigning title on insulin amounts used.

Nope...no extra zeros. Very typical of agent Orange induced T2, extreme insulin resistance.

I don't pump, but I think I injected around a total of 70 units one day. It started off with waking up at 1 in the morning, a blood sugar up above 300, whacking that sucker down and then eating a lot later on in the day.

I'm surprised, I thought we would see a lot more higher numbers.
NOT TO SAY 450 ain't high!!, but many people seem to have had diabetes a long time and still average less than 30 units?!! I thought that was almost impossible for a Type 1 after honeymoon.
well maybe i should be working out more often..lol
Bill- Hows your injection sites doing? do you find that you have to change sites more often than normal?

Got to take in consider everyone has a different insulin:carb ratio.
The most units I saw going back on my pump a few months was 21 worth of bolus....my basal is like 24units alone.
My i:c is 1:10

AAAARGH!!! My Animas pump only holds 200 units and a canula site only lasts about 400 units.
I would go crazy if i had to refill the pump reservoir 4 times and change the cannula twice a day!!

My bolus best was 50u for a 16" pizza, double choc-pb brownie, and of course diet pepsi. My pp's and subsequent checks were all good.

i think the most I've ever bolused is around 8 units. I'd rather do a post 1 hour BS check then do a correction if i need to take more than that.

I average about 35 units a day. My high has been 45 and low has been 21. I used more on MDI but never more than 75

My earlier reply was for the most pumped in a day. The most for one meal has been about 7 units (1:12 ratio)

Oh I should of metioned when prego's with kids, I went up as high is 200 units a day on shots...LOL....so I know I am diabetic, what amazes me, is how i went from being on 60-70 units a day on shots then down to 40 units, while I was doing it all right on shots, to know a whopping 20 units a day avg......weird, and my basals are 11-11.85 units a day, and all that....and I eat 150 carbs or more or less....weird wild stuff, hey maybe I am getting cured, LOL.....nah.......I am just an odd ball now......

I change sites every 2 days..sometimes 3 days when I am too lazy too change it. At 3 days I begin to get absorption problems.

I average about 25 a day - but have gone up as high as 35. I am using about the same amount of insulin (fast/slow) as I did when I was on MDI method. I change my infusion site on average every 5 days.

right now I am at 148 units per day split into 4 shots.
whats basal and bolus mean.
Basal is insulin that sees you thru' for 24-36 hours. I used to use NPH or Lantus when injecting by needle - where I had 2 shots a day - usually in the a.m. / p.m. Here on the forum people refer to multiple injections as MDI - but please everyone correct me if I'm wrong since I'm a newbie here. With an insulin pump - you have a basal setting that pumps a small amount of insulin over 24 hours based on your activity level, hormone level, etc. etc.
Bolus is when you use a fast acting insulin - before eating a meal. A bolus takes care of the carbs you are going to eat - or you can do a "correction" bolus to maintain whatever BG (blood sugar) range you are attempting to maintain.
I found a thread here on the forum that might help you abit more in understanding basal/bolus - but if someone else knows of a better thread - please post it ...
