With my nurse practicioner. Apparently my GP doesn't want to see me unless I'm ready to die. Anyways, I god some good news and some not so good news, I think.

The good news is my A1C came back at 6.0%, my best yet! It was 6.4% in September, and I wasn't expecting any change. It's also cool that I've only had no bad hypos at all in the three months prior.

Cholesterols came back great too: LDL 2.02 HDL 2.00 Ratio 2.2 Total 4.33 Triglycerides 0.69.

Iffy news was my liver ALT up slightly to some unknown value. She wants me retested next time. Apparently things like alcohol can affect this, and she wasn't worried, yet.

Also Iffy was my BP. I was 140/76 in the waiting room and she retested at 138/76. She wants in under 130/80. I'm not too worried. I had 5 cups of coffee this morning and did a 15 minute brisk walk to the office in nasty weather. The part I don't care for is she wants me back in a month to retest and put me on some BP tester. She also wants me to get some readings on my own and even buy a meter. Pffft! I hate doctors ;)

Hey John, you on any Ace pills for the BP yet?

NICE A1C buddy, very nice.

On the Liver side, we'll just have to see.

By meter...do you mean a blood pressure monitor? It would be a good idea for all of to have one...I'll go dig mine out of the closet...

I'm on Ace and statins. Ya, a BP monitor.

I seem to have a 50% of my Altace being upped each time I see my endo. :P

I just tell her that hanging out with all you guys is the reason my BP is so high!

Congrats on the (mostly) good report.

On the liver thing: my liver variously comes back with a 'little something' to watch that seems to disappear next test so they keep on watching which isn't a bad thing.

The BP monitors are fairly cheap and very easy to use. Fun for all my friends at work too. They get steamed & come in wanting to check BP all the time. Sort of a workplace break habit when things start to get out of hand. Better than having people take smoke breaks at my desk which was the case 25 years ago. Glad I quit THAT nonsense.

Aiming for 5.5 on that A1c now? :D Just kidding, 6 is great and no easy achievement for type 1s.

You got it Pontiac! (ya, I'm old too :( ) Actually my goal is under 6. I'm real happy to be almost there. I think it should almost be trivial getting there; I have so many areas that can be easily improved without increasing risk.

well, that sounds like a very good report card to me! Congrats!

my dh has often had his ALT numbers up high..recently almost double what they should be... I asked my Doc if that meant he had liver damage and she said although he was out of normal range, he had no signs of liver damage overall...

XMenace, in what units of measurement are your cholesterol numbers reported? Mine are in mg/dL. (I know how to convert mmol/dL to mg/dL, but that's not what you've got there.)

Good job on the A1C!

Best,
Leafbear ("Made in America" :o )

mmol/L

What are mg/dl and mmol/l? How to convert? Glucose? Cholesterol? (http://www.faqs.org/faqs/diabetes/faq/part1/section-9.html)

To convert mmol/l of HDL or LDL cholesterol to mg/dl, multiply by 39.
To convert mg/dl of HDL or LDL cholesterol to mmol/l, divide by 39.

To convert mmol/l of triglycerides to mg/dl, multiply by 89.
To convert mg/dl of triglycerides to mmol/l, divide by 89.

CDA TArgets (http://www.diabetes.ca/files/Definition-targets.pdf)

 LIPID TARGETS
The LDL-C (or “bad” cholesterol) is the primary target for achieving lipid control. Controlling LDL-C reduces the risk of CVD. Most people with diabetes should aim for an LDL-C level of 2.0 mmol/L or less.

The TC/HDL-C ratio is an index of CVD risk. A high TC/HDL-C ratio is associated with a higher risk of CVD. Controlling the TC/HDL-C ratio is a secondary target for optimizing lipid control once the LDL-C level is 2.0 mmol/L or less. The target level for TC/HDL-C is less than 4.0.

Karen

You know what? This is the slackest I've been in the last 19 months since the start of pumping. My testing is down to 5 or 6 times a day and I've kept no records at all except for what I can upload to MM when I get around to it. I believe the work is all up front, and once things such as basal rates and I:C's get set and you become comfortable with them, you can engage cruise control, to a degree. This place helps a lot too to keep me motivated. I've been a notoriously bad tester most of my career. Still am.

Well, John........I have slacked off the last 6 months due to my sister's illness and the stress it is causing me and my A1c has climbed! I am not expecting it to be any better at my next endo appmt. on March 4th..........unless of course you fly out here and donate your blood for my test! LOL

I'm really happy for you, John. I am sure my endo and I will do some tweaking of basal rates, etc. next month. I'm also going to request another C-peptide. 4 years ago my pancrease was producing a little insulin and I'm convinced by my recent #'s that it may have shut down completely.

That is a great A1c in my book and I would be very happy with it right now. I have also slacked for the past three years. Like Karen, I seemed to have more interest in my parents illness and I have just ignored what I need to be doing.

I am trying to get back on track. First step was getting my endo to agree to take me back. I go on the 13th and I know it won't be pretty.

I won't be posting a happy face next to my A1c.

I think you did great John. I know you will get back your GREAT numbers. Can I have your old ones? :o
