Anyone had a Pan Retinal Photocoagulation Surgery

I get to have this on Feb. 14th just wondering if anyone has ever had this type of laser surgery?

I have recently had it on both eyes and follow up with steroid injections. It really is more annoying than painful because of the number of bright flashes that you endure. In my case it was less than 100 but it is really rough to keep staring without moving. I had one eye that was critical enough due to the location of the bleeding that was numbed to the extent that I could not move it.
As bad as I hate the needles that seemed to be easier to take.
The good news is that while it did not restore my vision completely it has seemed to maintain it.

I'm pretty sure that's not the same Jim. Sounds more like accute treatment for a bleeder. Pan is typically several hundred to a few thousand blasts in the periphery.

Ya I've had it Gabby as have many on here. It's not fun, but it's not really painful. I tell people it's hard work.

Do you know anything about it - what it is, what it tries to accomplish, what the risks are, and what the prognosis is?

How's the occlusion behaving?

I've had it too. It's not comfortable, but it's definitely manageable. I found it helped to take an extra strength tylenol before going in.

You'll need a few sessions to complete it all. There's lots of stuff on the web. Unfortunately most of them suck.

The pain killer really helped me too, more for afterwards. The biggest thing you can do is relax. It is easy to become tense and get all freaked out, but once you get going you'll realize it is not so bad. The placing of the lense on the eyeball with that ghostbusters slime was the part that made my tummy churn. I could never wear contacts I'm so sensitive. But once it's on and a couple minutes go by, you hardly notice it. The bright light is very uncomfortable. You want to run away and hide, but you can't. I'm sure you've had bright light exams already, so you know what I mean. But for 30 minutes or longer is tough. The laser is probably the easiest part. Pain, if any, is minor, and the pills you took really help keep that down.

I guess that is why he wants me put under to have it done. He knows I tend to faint very easy and have high blood pressure. Last time I had an eye surgery under a local my blood pressure dropped because I fainted after it was over. I am a woos for sure! My pressure has always been controlled with meds very well but my medical doc said if my pressure is elavated at all that day they cancel the surgery.

HAd the surgery on Valentines Day and it was a piece of cake! They did it at the hospital and everything went fine. I go back to the Doctor on the 29th but I don't see any change so far.

I never have had this procedure but Im with you, if I did need it, put me to sleep! I had to have a cat scan once and thought I was gonna lose my mind, in that tight little space with the noise I had to make up songs in my head just to make it thru. Im a woos too!

I finally had the retinal pan surgery and it was a piece of cake! That doesn't sound very good coming from a diabetic . There was no pain at all and I never knew they did it.Now I wait and see hopefully no more blood vessel trouble.
