Apparently I registered in April of 2006 but never posted before, then forgot about the site  It has been a crazy year though.
I'm T1 coming up on 38 yrs, diagnosed at age 9. I've been pumping for almost 3 yrs. I've always been the one with the "medical issues" (read: brittle) but have been in the caretaker role since my husband unexpectedly needed a quintuple bypass at the end of '06. (1yr+ and doing well)
I've searched to find other T1's who may have some of my same experiences or issues, and I can't for the life of me remember how I found this site in the first place. I rediscovered the site from a series of clicks, initiated by a story in the Washington Post Health section this past Tuesday.
I attended a diabetic camp for many years and was recently looking for some former camp mates--unsuccessfully. I must say it's very encouraging seeing so many members with the longevity of yrs with this disease greater than mine.
I'm looking forward to learning from others and hoping to find anyone else who has experienced multiple autoimmune conditions. In the past decade I've been diagnosed with endo and many food allergies, in addition to adhesive allergies. I'm currently dealing with my first time being "ill" while on the pump--I've been laid up with a nasty cold or flu for the past week. Lots of trial and error with the basal rates!:T

Hi Squid,
Welcome to DF !!,
Keep looking for your camp mates, don't give up, maybe 1 or 2 may be here or they may visit the forums.
How was your last A1C?

Hi Squid,
I'm going on 29 years as Type 1. A year or so ago, I thought I was falling apart! Now, my only complaint is arthritic hands. I have a touch of heart disease (but feel fine), and have been through long years with frozen shoulders and popping fingers and could just kick myself for smoking for so many years. Don't laugh . . . I never inhaled, so maybe that's why I'm no worse off than I am!
After quitting the bad habit and getting my numbers in control and caring deeply about life again . . . I feel I can live many more quality years. I got to be with 3 of my now deceased grandparents during the end of their lives, and now I'm enjoying time with my remaining grandma (with Alzheimers). I fit into that caretaker role very well. BUT, I finally started taking the advice to care for my own self . . . or what good can you be for others!?
Welcome back!

Welcome back and good luck on finding those camp-mates.
I was dx'ed at 35 so camp was never an issue but I worked at a 4H camp for several summers and the adult leaders who attended the camp as kids were in raptures when they returned so I have a feeling for how your memories must move you.
Maybe the admin can add a camp-reconnect area where you post the camp, year(s) attended, troop or bunk or tribe or whatever you had to help attract camp-mates to reconnect. Worth asking anyway.

Thank you all for the warm welcome. My last A1C was 7.3 if I recall correctly. Higher than it has been in years. I've ranged from 6.2 to 6.9 before. I still have this nasty virus going around, but at least there's been a break and my sugars are starting to respond the insulin again.
Great suggestion about a camp-reconnect area...!

Welcome back.
What was the name of the camp that you attended? Where was it at? The ADA and CWD websites have links to camps that are still in operation. Many camps have a reunion or alumni page at their website. You might also try contacting the Diabetes Education and Camping Assn if your camp no longer exists. That's how I finally reconnected with my camping buddies. There's always Google too.

Thanks David. It's nice to hear that you were able to reconnect with your old camping buddies. It is an ADA Camp, and the camp still exists, but it is in a totally different location. Same name--different camp. It was Camp Glyndon in Reisterstown MD. When I had checked it out previously the website was geared to the newer camp. I attended from 1971 to 1979. My sister was a nurse there, and my brother actually became Assistant Director at one point. Regretably, the two people I searched for most recently (I did use google) recently passed away. :(
