Hi:
Lucked on to this forum today. It's Sunday...where do you go! Google search! The posters seemed so knowledgeable and engaged in this forum. So here I am.
I was diagnosed with T2 about 7 years ago. Probably, like most had it longer.
For other reasons, I've been on high does (80mg/day) of Prednisone and antivirals. What a mess I am. My bgl shot up last night to 356 (Really high for me). Horrible taste in my mouth; eyes hurt, and just generally feel really sick. This am it dropped to about 210. Got on the exercise bike a couple of hours ago.
Being able to read your posts has helped a lot already to ease the panic.
Does anyone know if you are better off not to eat anything, just drink water, when this happens. Or just eat protein, like an egg, or tsp of peanut butter. I'm hoping there is no such thing as a dumb question here!:o

Welcome.
I think you're best off calling your doctor for a medication adjustment or make one on your own. Pred and other steroids are real nasty as far as BGs go. I don't think diet alone will work. You probably need the food for healing too.

Thank you for the encouragement...I don't know why I am so hesitant to call him.

Welcome to Diabetes Forums.
I have also been on prednisone and had the same issues. Try and stick with VERY low carb foods while you are on prednisone. Proteins are ok, but not exclusively. Also eat salads and any low glycemic food. Exercise is ok, but not to an excess when your blood sugar is extremely high. It is hard on your body.
The only dumb question here is the one you don't ask! :T
Welcome.

Hello Queen and welcome to the forum.
With those numbers, you might want to check with your doctor tomorrow.

Eating depends on if you are hungery or not! For me water and a small amount of peanut butter seems to work. Each person is different and meds react differently.
Oh, and Welcome to the forums!

Called. Am waiting for a reply. I didn't want to up my Actos on my own....too new at this. We'll see what the response is. Here there is only the emergency room or a quickmed facilitity where you can go and set with strep throat for 2 1/2 hours before getting to an examining room!
They just called and told me to take 30 mg of Actos a day for 2 weeks to get over the prednisone.

Similar philosophies, huh?!
Similar motivations too!
Welcome to the club.
You really don't want to risk those high numbers for very long and I think exercise is shunned if you are over 250 although a light duty workout is probably a good thing like taking a walk.

Hi Queen, welcome to the madhouse! :D
I was on pred for awhile last year and it made my bgs go all over the place, but mostly HI HI and HI. :T
I had the luxury of being on insulin, so I just upped my basal rate, but I'm glad that your doc was able to help you out. :)

I searched terms here looking for topics on diabetes and compulsive overeating, couldn't find anything.
Do we not mix problems here? This is a major one for me in my diabetes "control". In my next life I will have "control" over my life.
I'm enjoying the neat, friendly responses.:T

If you don't find a topic you're searching for, start a new thread! We mix up all kinds of things on this board. :)
