Finally tried Dreamfields pasta over the weekend. I was impressed, I couldn't detect any differences between it and regular pasta as far as taste and texture goes. It even passed the Sicilian mother-in-law test.
Best part was after a big bowl of the stuff (with my wife's carbonara sauce), my 2-hour post-prandial was 123.
Life is good, I no longer have to feel guilty about eating pasta.

Yep, its really good stuff! If you check out their website, they often have $1.00 off coupons available. Glad you had a good experience with it as well.

I'm planning a trip South this summer, and I'm planning on bring back a case or two ;)
I'm looking forward to testing Dreamfields pasta. From what I've read about it, I'm thrilled about this product. Here's some info for those interested:

Now I'm waiting for this technology to produce a good, low-carb pizza. That's probably the only food that makes me shed a tear knowing I can't eat it....well, I can eat a small slice or two, but pizza's one of those foods where it's not much fun to only eat one or two slices.

Good luck finding that one! I've tried the S. Beach pizzas...and would just as soon do without....the crusts (IMO) are NASTY.
When I crave pizza, I get a low-carb tortilla (usu. Mission Brand from Walmart) and crisp it in a skillet with a little olive, put it on a cookie sheet, add a little sauce, veggies, meat and cheese and broil until cheese is melted....not bad at all!:D

Love dreamfields....so good. (droooooling)
Another pizza alternative is pita pocket pizzas. Cut a whole wheat pita in half and open each half into a pocket. Fill with sauce, cheese, and veggies, and microwave until melted. Yummy, and they don't mess with my BGs the way that real pizza does :)

Thread Jack! Try this and see if it works for you! I make this alot!
Pizza with a "crust"
Ingredients: Ground Hamburger (Raw) for crust.
Favorite Pizza toppings like
3/4 cup bell peppers
1/2 cup chopped black olives
2 large Portabello mushrooms chopped
Pepperoni/sausage
1 1/2 cup packaged shredded cheese
How To Prepare:
Press Hamburger into the bottom of any Pizza pan or baking pan, ( leave a little thick because the hamburger will shrink with cooking.
Place in oven at 400' and bake until cooked (remove to drain off grease.) Then spread with your favorite spagetti sauce (I use low carb) and top with stuff~!
Bake until cheese is melted.
Ive also seen a recipe where the "crust" is egg whites mixed with parmasan cheese and baked, then topped with cheese and toppings. Havent tried this yet.

I've seen this done with chicken as well, but never tried it. Do you find the burger crust to be "greasy?"

I tell you what I do if Im not pressed for time and that is to remove the crust onto a stack of paper towels and let it rest for 30 mins or more. All of that oil leaves and it is firmer so you can actually pick up slices when it leaves the oven topped with goodies. Other wise I do it in a hurry and we eat it with a fork if the crust is too flexible...if that makes sense.
Try Gino's East deep dish, leave the crust behind. Works well for me.
That might be a problem for me. I love the crust from Gino's East (and Lou Malnati's). I might be tempted. I haven't eaten there since being diagnosed in July, but every time I drive by the restaurant I begin to drool.
Okay, I finally tried Dreamfields pasta. It tastes the same as "standard" pasta and my blood glucose numbers were fine. It's a great product. Thanks to this forum for bringing it to my attention.

For those of you who have had Dreamfields pasta, how did you calculate the carbs ? Did you base it on 5 gm's per serving?

What stores can you buy it in? Know I can probably go online, but if it is found in a regular store, would rather walk in and buy it. I live in KY, but will be going to Atlanta area in a couple of weeks.

I've gotten mine from Amazon.com, and made sure to keep the order over $25 in order to get my shipping waived. I've seen Dreamfields at a couple supermarkets, but I can't remember which. They're in a black box, so keep an eye out for it.

Have you guys ever heard of "Homemade Pizza" Co.? This place just opened up near my area and they have whole wheat crust pizza. Would that whole wheat work with us being diabetic? This place, you called in whatever topping you want and you go and pick it up and bring it home to put it in your oven. I'm sooo tempted to get the pizza but was wondering whole wheat is good? with just tomatoes and maybe fresh mozz cheese on it if I'm allow without the sauce? I'm new at this.

I just tried Dreamfields this week, just heard of it actually. Worked great, had over a cup of it, with little spike at all.
Both of the big chain stores near me have it, Kroger and Meijer. Different locations have different styles. I have sen spag., elbow, and one more (dont remember which)
Also, had some Texmati brown rice. 1/3 cup is 15g, as opposed to 1/4. Little spike at all, had 1/2 cup with homemade chop suey. mmmmm... expensive rice tho!

While pizza is mentioned, I ate 3 slices (oops) last night and my 2 hour test was very good! BUT this morning, my first reading was higher than it has been in a while. Wondering if the pizza took revenge and if so ..... could this new pasta be doing the same to any of you? I sure hope not because I miss my pasta!!! ;)

Where can you order Dreamfields? Better yet, are there any stores that sell it. I would rather walk in and look at it and buy what I want, plus not pay shipping and all that. But if that isn't possible I will order it. Went to Dreamfields.com and got a David Mendoza thing about it but couldn't see how to order it.

Our local grocery store carries it. You can try asking your store manager if they can order it. Most stores want you business so they will usually try and get it for you.

Hi Everyone:
I've been using the Dreamfields since I first heard of it and found it on the shelf in my local Shoprite (Wakefern Foods Corp.)
I have taken their instructions on cooking one step farther. Since I make my own sauce (3 or 4 plum tomatoes in a food processor with Oregeano and Basil, then saute 1/4 cup minced oninons, 1 clove minced garlic and, usually, about a half pound of low-fat turkey sausage, then add the blended tomato and herbs and then add 2 Tbsp tomato paste simmer for about six minutes).
I cook the pasta for only six minutes in water (while the sauce is simmering). Then I drain the water and mix the pasta into the sauce, plate and serve. The remaining six minutes of cooking takes place in the sauce and while it is being plated and served. In this way I avoid over-cooking which will kill the low-carb characteristic of the Dreamfields pasta.
I am an ex-professional cook (from a long time ago when the words Celebrity and Chef never appeared in the same sentence and when Emeril was watching Flintstones re-runs and learning how to say "BAM!") so I like good food. Is Dreamfields perfect pasta? Nope, I can make a better tasting and better consistency pasta myself, but that will drive your BG wild. It is a good compromise and a darned good product.

OK, I am just not great at this I guess, but must have done something wrong. Finally found Dreamfield at Kroger, tried it, liked it, but my sugar has been going up since. Before was
148 (at 5:35). At 7:45 it went up to 222, at 8:55 it was up to 289. I had about 2 cups cooked.
The package said 2 oz. uncooked us a serving. What is that supposed to mean when you get ready to dish it out cooked. It also said the 2 oz. uncooked has 40 carbs, but 5 digestible. So should I have gone by the 40? How do you know what 2 oz. dry ends up being in the end.
I never did quite figure out the carb/digestible carb thing on foods--like Arby's wrap.
I liked the Pasta, but apparently it might not work for me.

They are "protected carbs" of sorts... The pasta is made so that the carbs are "blocked" from being absorbed. This is the best explanation I can give. I was weary, but tried it, and it was exactly as my dietician stated.

I got a friend to bring me some Dreamfields from the States this week and I had it tonight. It was great. Can anyone explain how they arrive at 5 Digestible Carbs. A serving has 42 grams of Carbs and 5 grams of Fiber. So that means 37 g of available carbs. What do they do to it to make only 5 carbs?

Okay, this pasta really confuses me. I have heard multiple times that there are 37 non-digestible carbs. Does this mean that they don't count and I only have to take insulin for the 5 remaining carbs? Or, Is there still 37 carbs I have to look out for?
JasonJayhawk

Read the FAQ on the Dreamfields pasta site for more info on that.
Dreamfields Pasta, Healthy nutrition frequently asked questions (http://www.dreamfieldsfoods.com/pasta-nutrition.html#sec3q2)
In the USA, carbohydrate (CHO) includes non-digestible carbohydrates (I don't know why). Look at the "Fiber" content, and subtract that out for your dosing.
For example, if CHO is listed as 12 grams, and fiber is listed at 4 grams, you would dose for 8 grams of carbohydrate for each serving size.
Scrabblechick
04-21-2008, 01:31 PM
All CHO must be listed in the US, per FDA guidelines and "clarity" in food labeling.

I love dreamfield pasta. I can't tell the difference between this and regular pasta. The only thing that I find is that it is quite expensive ( usually goes for $2.59) and I can't find it in every supermarket. When I do see it on sale I buy at least 6 boxes. I just can't stay away from pasta.

Hmm. Has anyone else experienced this before with this product?
I tried it out for the first time for dinner last week, with a very low carb sauce (3 carbs/serving). Readings 2 hours after were normal, but when I woke up I was over 200 for the first time in a month. So decided to test it again today, but this time try it for breakfast, and watch my reading. 2 hours after 115, 4 hours after 118, then 8 hours later once again over 200. I exercised (treadmill) twice during the afternoon, and still ended up with that high reading.
Anyone else experience this? Goes to show you that everyone is different.
