its been several weeks and ive been grappling with trying to resolve some small issues in Bg control. (i dont like not being in control ~ hey who does?)
always went low before lunch
always need a snack at 4pm
always went low before dinner
always have to correct at bedtime
i tweeked and nudged my basals in the morning but was still going low so tried a new daytime I:C ratio of 1:18..which is working a treat! i can go much longer before lunch now.
still need that snack in the afternoon...some old habits die hard! lol
lows before dinner resolved with the new daytime I:C ratio (1:18)
dinner~ spread my bolus out over a couple of hours i can now eat a pudding, and no correction needed at bedtime, even wake up with perfect BG in the morning.
i am so pleased. :)
ive posted this in case anyone finds it helpful in any way too ;)

Nice when things work out, eh?
Good for you Sharon. Hope things remain in alignment!
How did you determine that 1:18 was right? What was it before?

Sharon,
Your info is very helpful! I've been basal testing a lot, and am now the proud "owner" of 5 different basal rates. However, now I need to be looking closer at my carb ratio, and raise it a bit like you have done during afternoon-early evening hours.
Thanks! And like Mike said -- it's so fun to get a few things right, isn't it?!

Glad you've figured out something that seems to be working for you.

thanks mike ;)
when i started pumping oct '07 i was told use 1:10, this was far too much, so i changed it to 1:12, still no good then thought id hit the jackpot with 1:15 but needed to confirm it with basal testing.
my basal testing showed a very tiny drop around midmorning, which i tweeked out, but i was still going lower by lunchtime, the only thing left was the I:C ratio.
as it was only a slow drop before each meal i decided 1:18 would a good place to go. and it worked!

Sharon
Good detective work and perseverance. Of course it makes things easier when you are your own guinea pig and stand to gain personally from the experiments! :D

Warms the cockles to hear of improvements! Well done. Hoping to hear more sometime. :)
Can you describe how your spread out dinner time bolus works a and the difference to before? That sounds quite interesting...

i'm still experimenting with different foods but what seems to be working best for me is taking my bolus spread over 2 hours, its called an 'extended' bolus on my pump, last night i tried a multiwave but it was a bit of a disaster with rice so i think i'll stick to trying the 2 hour extended bolus for now.
the before pattern.....was eat dinner, take bolus 1:10, at 3 hours i would have to correct even for perfectly counted carbs! very infuriating!!! i still dont get it!
thing was though, i always needed something else to eat within 1 hour of my meal, so was i heading for a low at that time? the fact that my BG's didnt rise after that meal where i forgot the bolus showed me what was really happening.
to this day i dont think i would have sussed it out for myself without missing the bolus, it would have been another of those D mysteries lol :D
