View Full Version : Insulin hitting the stomach

A certain amount of insulin (novorapid), whether through a bolus or a few hours basal without food, can leave me feeling quite queasy in the stomach and a kind of tingling sensation in my torso sometimes.

This used to happen now and then with injection therapy (lots of the time in mornings before meal) but is more common now with the pump. Doesn't seem related to low or high symptoms, just the presence of insulin. It's not terrible but I wonder if there is an explanation for it or things I can do?

I usually cope just by eating something... and that's fine. Except now I am now trying to fast for periods for basal testing and it's more of a problem, not sure how much of it I can/should put up with for extended periods.

Subby,

I read somewhere (maybe in Pumping Insulin) that it's ok to eat very small amounts of protein while basal testing. I've never experienced anything like what you are describing.

Sounds like good old hunger to me. If your blood sugar is stable, ignore it until the basal test is over. You only need to skip one meal at a time. My experience has been that eating anything messes up a basal test result.

OK thanks for the comments. I will soldier through then, shouldn't be too big a drama.
