Well, here I am "nervous Nelly"!! Meds arrived today(metformin) and I hate taking anything new. I am a wreck worrying about the side effects especially the stomach. I am to take 500 mg 2x aday. My stomach feels lousy now so I'll wait until the morning. Is that a put-off??? I can handle most, but if I ever have vomiting...that will be the last pill I take. Forgive me for being such a baby. It is just that I mind 2 little ones every day and cannot be feeling awful. Also, any advice out there would be appreciated.

Im a gaggy goose and I was soooo worried about this too! The Dr. made sure I took 1/2 doses for the 1st few days (you can only crack the reg. tablets not the extended release ones) and made sure the pill went down with a belly full of food. I had SLIGHT tummy rumbles the 1st couple of days and that was it. My key is to make sure it is taken with plenty of food. Im on 1000 mg and am being doubled to 2000mg.

Dr. said take full amount. I've had some stomach issues but nothing too bad....just an overall feeling of "Yuk" !:( If I keep taking it with a fair amount of food...I'll gain what I lost so far. I'll be glad once my stomach adjusts and I can feel like myself again.

It does not have to do down with a whole buffet! LOL Just buffers the stomach to have food in the stomach with it. Pain pills make me sick as a dog, so i have learned if I take them with food Im no longer hugging a wastebasket!

You may find you actually lose weight while on the metformin, as it works to help your cells better utilize the insulin you produce. Often, that gnawing hunger we feel is due to insulin resistance.
