I'm at work so I'll make this quick. I went out to eat with some friends last weekend, then retired to thier condo, where we met up with Beth. Beth is 21. My guess, is she's ~30lbs overweight, but all-in-all pretty healthy. Non-smoker.

She saw me checking my sugar and was just curious to see what hers was. She's never heard much about diabetes, let alone think that her sugars would be bad. She hadn't eaten anything in the last 4-5 hrs. I think she said she had a coke about 3hrs prior.

I put in a new needle, gave her a 'prickin' and waited. Her BS was 172.

Isn't this a little high for just having a coke a few hours ago? What could I do to get her stubborn self checked out?

Tell her mom. Just a thought.

Three hours after a Coke, blood glucose should be back below 100. A reading of 172 suggests there could be a problem. Could she have had sugar on her fingers? Offer to do another test. If it is high, show her the graph below and this webpage so she can see how far from normal her numbers are :

Did she wash her hands or did she still have coke on them?

Might be worth looking into - better safe than sorry and all of that.
