I have my diabetic appointment today and I am scared about going because my last a1c was 12.0 and well for the last few months my diabetes has been out of control I was at college and I didnt like the course so that was getting me down and then I came down with a virus so everything was just out of control and well this month I have got them down and they seem quite good they are from 5 - 12 but I know my a1c is going to be high again and it was 12 last time :(

Jodie, I know how hard it is to go for an appt, especially if you think you're not going to have good results.
You mention that your results have improved in the past month...perhaps this improvement is enough to make your A1C less. I've read that the A1C is strongly influenced by the last 3-4 weeks...so it may not be as bad as you think it will. Even if it is, no point in beating yourself up over it. We do the best we can and continuously try and improve. If you don't like these results, just resolve to make the next one's even better!

I know how you feel Jodie. Remember, this is about your life and the doctor is a tiny piece. His/her job is to help you; your job is much bigger than just pleasing the doctor! Chin up and be determined to take good care of yourself.
I always feel like a student going in for an exam & I also need help worrying more about ME than what someone thinks of me. Let the doc be a tool in better care for yourself ok? Admit you haven't been the greatest, but keep your confidence. Vow to continue to do better but don't knock yourself -- be your own good friend.

Oh boy, do MOST of us know how you feel. Bite the bullet and go. I had to force myself recently to do the same thing, knowing that the doctor would not be pleased, but more importantly.....I would not be pleased. Just do it and it will help motivate you to get on track.
This site has been inspirational for me. There are a lot of great people here with experience that they are willing to share.
Good Luck!!!!

Jodie,
Try look on the positive side (I know it can be hard), you have had better numbers for the last month (which may help your A1c) and you know why your numbers were not good before that therefore you know how to get them down.
As Jan said it can feel like you are attending an exam, but you are not, you Doctor is (with all due respect) a tool for you to use to help manage your diabetes. He/She is there to help you to improve your numbers.
The fact that you posted here, means you do want to improve which is the first step, you are doing this for you, not your Doctor or the Lab.
Go to the appointment, if the results are good then great, if not then take them as a reason to improve.
Do let us know how you get on.
Best of luck,
Jodie

I have just got back :) Last week I had my thyroid checked by my gp so when I went today they had all the results from the blood test and I am really happy everything was fine apart from my thyroid which needs to be put up a little bit the doctor said it was fine but if I had an extra tablet I would feel alot better and I have been feeling a little tired lately. My a1c came back as 9.3 which was a big shock for me as I thought it would be higher. I am hopefully going to improve it for July when I next go back :D

Good for you Jodie. Getting the thyroid in line will make you feel MUCH better AND help get your bg in better control. I've taken synthroid for several years, and that is critical to feeling good (and not exhausted). I hope you have a much better afternoon, now that your appt is done!
Brilliant news Jodie, that's a great improvement in your A1c well done :)

Congrats on the improved A1C! I TOLD YOU it might not be as bad as you thought!;) I'll bet in July it will be even better!
That's great news, Jodie. If you could do that well under stress and not paying attention, you have nowhere to go but up!
The thyroid news will help you too. After you begin on the meds, the doctor should keep testing every appointment until you are no longer feeling tired, but are still ok with the numbers. That will be the optimum amount you should take. It took me two adjustments on my levoxythyroxine but now I feel much better.
Remember, the Doc is there for YOU, not the other way around. Sometimes we forget that. Your eating plan & insulin should be adjustable for all of your many lives and work, and he should help you do it. Even school. Even stress.
Here's a pat on the back for being brave and going to the Doc!

Jodie, I'm glad things turned out better than you thought. Getting that thyroid straight is critical. I'm taking levothyroxine and I think I'm finally on the right dose of it.
I'm always worried about my appts. Even more so now that I've started pumping. Don't try to compare your A1C to others. We are all different. Just do the best you can and if you fall "off the horse", get back on and keep trying. :)

I'm sure you feel much better hearing your A1c has come down, Jodie. Now.......keep up the hard work and get it down some more so you'll be just as happy come your July appointment.
Good Luck!
