I have very mild retinopathy in both eyes, slightly more advanced in the right than the left. As of yesterday, I've noticed that the right eye seems really blurry all the time, and the overall vision is worse... If I close my left eye, everything looks darker, as though someone is playing with a dimmer switch.

I can't get into the optho til next week, but what do you guys think?

Oh, and if someone IS playing with a dimmer switch... then quit it :D

Hi Kit, nice to see you 'round here! Fortunately for me, I don't have much experience with these things, so I'm just gonna throw this out there...

You're pumping now and I guess your control has much improved from a few months ago. Sometimes these unfortunate symptoms seem to pop out (like neuropathy) when control improves. I'd love to know if that's really true, and why!

I hope your peepers keep peepin like they should. Best wishes Kit.

Whoa, did you tell the optho youve lost vision or just as for an appointment. Id put a call thru and ask the Dr. to call you back.

susique333, when I called the clinic, they said that he is away for a week, and won't be back until Friday next week. So I'm stuck until then. If it gets worse, I guess I'll just go to the eye hospital?

When it has to do with my eyes, I don't wait. I'd rather my doctor say its nothing or something minor. If your doctor isn't available, go to another one. Its OK to be in the butt.

Yes I am with you on that Kieth. It is been noted that this sudden control that you have now Kit has this side affect and I have found that if any diabetes related complication is the eye first. :( Sorry Kit. :( So I cannot blame you to see the eye doctor.

You should see a Dr. asap. Early treatment can be vital. Here in Canada I can either got to ER can get referred to the optho on call or go to an Opto and at least get a dialated exam right away then a refereral. But then I have to pay the opto.

Without knowing exactly what's happenning, I'd say it's a bit of edema: a leakage in the retina that has pooled. It's pretty common for us long termers. If it is, they should not be doing any laser unless they take pictures first with the dye. I dunno what that procedure is called. They really can't tell where to shoot without it. Edema, especially in these early stages, can also clear up on it's own. Discuss in detail with the optho if this is what it is.

Fluorescein angiogram?

Hmm Fluorescein.....

I had the same problem, I improved control and suddenly I had peripheral retinopathy.

The Fluorescein was cool, even though I nearly passed out when she showed me the needle!!!!
