I hate insurance companies because mine is giving me the run around. I'm taking a pill called Duetact twice a day. My insurance company does not want to pay for the medicine because I need 60 pills at once to last me a month. They only want to pay for 30 pills even though I have to take them twice a day. My pharmacy called them and they wouldn't budge. So then my doctor's office called and they wouldn't budge. My doctor is out of office until Monday and I run out of the samples he gave me on Tuesday. I'm finally getting my numbers below 200 a day and I don't want to have to change my medicine. Why can't insurance companies just pay for the medicine like the doctor prescribed it? Why do they have to second question everything? It's bad enough that we have to have medicine to live off of and now they don't want to pay for it. I really don't want to have to change medications because I feel that this medicine is working. I can't afford the medicine without my insurance because it is like $500 for 60 pills.

That is your answer right there. There are tons of other diabetic medications out there at a much lower cost and they believe those will work alot better. If the insurance companies were to cover that for every type 2 diabetic because it worked then premiums would soar sky high for insurance. It's like a checks and balance system and unfortunately the patients are on the screwed end.

Is there an appeal process with your insurance company? I would ask how to appeal and go from there. That's generally what it takes to cover items that normally aren't covered or are to new to have a proven effectiveness.
