I've never been told, except for what I've read.

Fasting number = below 100 (mine so far has been around 110)
2 hours after meals = no more than 140 (mine stays in the 120's and occasionally over 150)

Am I in the ball park?

Sounds like you're "in the ballpark." :)

I was told at diagnosis that my fasting goal should be 110 or less, 2 hr post meal 140 or less and random 110 or less.

Hang in there...you're doing quite well!

My doc follows the ADA guidelines. Fasting 70-130, post-meal less than 180. I have finally been doing really well getting within these ranges! I actually am excited about my next appointment and A1c! :)

Doctordun,

I personally aim for the ranges that Linda mentioned, so in my humble opinion, you are doing pretty good. You'll get the 2 hours after first bit down where you want them as you learn more about what foods work best for you.

Keep up the good work,

I shoot for post-meals around 140. Even better at 120. This mirrored what my last endo felt.

Fasting, I like anything between 80-110. But 80-90 is great.

I wanted to add to my above post, that I am now mostly getting readings post-meal of 140 or less. I am very happy with these!

My morning fasting numbers are usually around 110 - I would prefer something below 100 but can't seem to get there. On the other hand, my afternoon pre-meal numbers are easily 80-90. I'm happiest when my 2 hour post prandial is below 126 but I'm okay as long as I'm below 140.

Ditto here on Linda's ranges.

< 110 fasting
< 140 2 hour post meal

I personally feel the ADAs ranges are a bit too liberal, at least for my goals.

My post meals are 120-140 and currently my fasting is a stubborn 130-140 which has come down quite a bit from the 180s. Just bumped up the Metformin and Im again seeing a slow trend down, yipee! Dr wants 110 or below.

If I am above 115, or below 70, I have made a mistake.

We're all different.

Yea, wow. I'm not anywhere near the type of control you all have. I go from 100 if I am being really good to 250 if I eat a rather large meal.

It takes time and practice to find the method that works best for you. You'll get there! That's really why its so important to test, test, test and then use those numbers you get as a gauge, letting you know what to eat and what to avoid. Hang in there!

Hey, if I can do it, then anyone can. As Linda says, time and practice and without a doubt, test, test, test and then test a bit more, it's how you learn.

Stick with it.

I'm far away from normal.
I wish I could be.

Normal is 85, read the poster MarkTN, he gets an A1C of 4.6.

I think that anything under 120 is OK.
damage to the eyes, kidneys, heart, genitals, other nerves happen if BG's are over 140, please do some more reading.

The eye doc that I see said that he has seen bleeding eyes, & eyes nerve damage of people with Diabetes with bg's over 150.
Ask your eye doctor for a bg goal.
