Most ACCURATE scales?

I am desperately trying to lose some weight! I haven't had a scale in years because they were so darned unreliable. I could gain and lose weight faster than anyone on the planet ... like in 2 minutes!:eek: Anyway, I am considering investing in a Physician's Balanced Beam scale. Anyone else have one or know where to get a good deal on one? I've found a few online, but any extra info would sure be appreciated!

I could get one from my teacher's lounge bathroom at school! The only scale I use these days!

Our scale at home recently told us it had a low battery, turned it over to change it to find a sticker that read "No access to battery, cannot be changed by consumer", or something similar.

The digital scales I have cost about $25 or 30, and I've never thought about inaccuracy! The only reason I weigh more at the doctors office, is they won't let you strip before weighing!

The ones I always had would weigh 3 different things each time you stepped on it during one weigh-in! I HAVE to know exactly where I am, especially when first dieting. One or two pounds is a big difference in my goal! :)

I always thought it would be cool to have the balance beam type, but never talked myself into paying the $200 approx it costs.

Just FYI, my scales are very accurate, as in stepping on them several times and getting the exact same number, even to the 1/2 pound. It's a Sunbeam Digital Lithium Scale (Model SDL900). It uses a 9V battery. I don't remember how long ago I purchased -- a few years ago.

I've found one for about $167 but I'm not real thrilled with spending that either. Maybe I'll try the one you have first and see how consistent it is. I figure if I do spend the money on the balance beam type then it will last forever. The diabetes isn't going away so I'll always have to monitor my weight.

Hi Kim, My D educator advised me to put more emphasis on the tape measure then on the scales.
Such advice has relaxed me a little as I was expecting the scales to be kinder now that my clothes are flogging me.
My waist is getting smaller but the scales seem to be in a rut. Muscles are now being weighed.

I can definitely tell I've lost by the shape of what hopefully will soon actually be my "waist" again ... lol! Also my inner thighs just barely touch now at the very top! I wish I had measured myself at the beginning so I would have something to compare to. I doubt I've gained much muscle to fool the scales with yet. ;)

My wife bought a Tanita scale, it does 10th's of a pound and the instructions even tell you to dry off well after a shower. It has 4 configurable user profiles which you input age and height and activity level then after each weighing it tells you how many calories it takes to maintain current weight. She said it was $40 at Target on line.

The more I think (obsess) about it, the more I want the Physician's Balanced Beam scale. I guess I just want to make sure there are no differences aka "surprises" when I go to my doctor's office.

With many of the new digital scales you must "reset" to a true 0 by stepping on and immediately off the scale. I didn't realize this until I read a label on the bottom. You must reset to 0 after moving the scales. (I was pulling out of a bathroom cabinet every now and then!)

I vote for the balance beam scale. I bought one 35 years ago and it still works great. It also matches the doctor's balance beam scales, although some doctors have gone over to the dark side and gone digital.

Amazingly you can find the balance beam style for $119.00 + shipping on eBay. Not to bad for something that should last awhile.
