Interesting read, Mike. I used to drink iced tea daily but I haven't done so in years. Maybe it's time to start again.

That's interesting. I started drinking several cups of black tea per day since getting hooked on a trip to Ireland a few months ago. My latest A1c came back at 5.9 and my daily and fasting numbers have consistently been in range for the last couple of months too. Who knows, maybe the black tea is helping or it's my conscientious effort at eating right, or the metformin and daily exercise since my diagnosis last July. It sure would be nice if there were Superfoods out there (and why can't cheeseburgers and chocolate be one of them :D )

We do tend to drink a fair bit of tea here don't we! Maybe I should start exporting Barry's Gold Blend tea to the US :D

I used to drink a lot of coffee, but have switched back to tea since DX, don't drink black tea though, have to have a drop of milk in it. How strong do you make the tea, I always remember the smell of "simmering tea" in my grandmother's house. She used to use tea leaves and the ritual was to boil the kettle, rinse the tea pot with the boil water (scald the pot), put the tea leaves in the pot, re-boil the kettle and add water to tea pot, the tea pot then had to placed on a low heat on the stove, "to let it draw". Anytime she offered me tea I used to laugh and say "not if you are making it", I'd get a clip on the ear and be told not to be so cheeky. But her tea was so strong it looked like Guinness (without the creamy head) and as we would say in Ireland, mice could trot across it.

Or maybe you could start exporting Bewley's tea. That's the tea I got hooked on while sitting in Bewley's on Grafton Street staring at all the yummy looking pastries that I couldn't have since I was newly diagnosed :(

You know, I think there is a website where you can order a taste of Ireland that includes tea! My brother in TN has used it a few times.

Found a site in the USA where not only can you get Barry's and Bewley's tea but lots of Irish food:

FoodIreland.com - Irish Food and Gift Store (http://www.foodireland.com/)

You lucky, lucky guy :D The first time I went to Ireland, I was undiagnosed so I got to sample some of the pastries at Bewleys. I wasn't so lucky on this last trip:( I was diagnosed 4 months before I found myself in Bewleys drooling on the pastry case :o

As long as there's a stop at the Guinness brewery, I'll do what I can to get there. :D

We can visit the Brewery and I know a place for a really great pint!

It's a pity you aren't all here next week for St.Patrick's day!

I'm up for that:D Thanks for the link to the Irish food website. They have Mikado cookies which I got addicted to in Ireland (I can only have one Mikado per day:T ):D
