Our church had a lock in for the youth last night, and since hubby and I are youth sponsors, we went along for the fun. I was up all night, surrounded by about 70 very intense teenagers...it was fun, very tiring, but apparently very hard on the bg.
I started going high around 4am (and I've tested at night, this doesn't happen under normal conditions) and kept going up.
I corrected at 8 when I got home (foolishly didn't bring quite enough humalog with me), and I corrected conservatively because I was going to sleep. Took my lantus, went to bed.
Woke up at 12 and I was at 140...I was fine with that, humalog was done doing it's thing, so I went back to bed.
Woke up at 2:30 with that familiar headache and a massive urge for sweets...the usual indication of a lantus low. I was 55.
Treated, got it to 100, wasn't really hungry so I decided to wait and have an early supper, upon which it was back up through the roof again.
This is the first all-nighter I've pulled since having D, and I'm thinking that if this is how it is, I won't do it again!
I'm assuming that the lack of sleep and messed up schedule just threw everything for a loop...amazing how EVERYTHING affects bg.

I find that doing all nighters is pretty undpredictable. Sometime's i'll go low aftwerwards, sometimes high. I've gotten better at it though, but it's totally not worth it.

Agreed. It mainly depends for me what I am doing. I sometimes do a "sleep over" as a care assistant. If I have to keep getting up through the night, by the morning my body is fatigued and insulin resistance/low absorption can hit badly.

Alternatively, if I sit up all night on the computer like I sometimes do, my metabolism gets lazy and things start to hike.

Unfortunately it does put stress on the body. Reactions will vary of course but I agree it may not be something you can really get a handle on.

Hey Grace girl,.
thats my daughters handle

STRESS on the bod' an all night'r is

Now as for lantus and rapid(humalog)shots at the same time;I speak from experience and finding out on the forum here lantus has a small but significant peak or plateau when used with rapid in the PM I myself go low during sleep.

I don't know what people do with humalog if they take latus shots in the am. ????

In my case it only takes 1-2 units humalog when high with my lantus and thats it LOW 2AM-

I work night shifts from 8pm til 5:15 am and it can cause a few probs every now and again. Same as everything else you learn from experience. My main problem is when my pit boss decides to change the time of my evening meal without telling me. This really screws things up because of the large basal doses I take for the dawn phenomenon. Its great when I tell my them about this mealtime nonsense and the woman looks at me like I'm having a laugh.

I do 2 nights shifts a week too, most of the time I get to sleep through them and they are beneficial. Occasionally though they have 4 or 5 interruptions through the night, and activity each time. I tend to have ok BG through these, it's the effect over the next 5 - 10 hours that's the killer, plus I often then need to catch up on sleep. It is coming closer to the time I will give away those shifts.

I sympathise with the meal at work issue. I am lucky most of the time my workplace is usually flexible, but not always. Sometimes people see my insistance on just eating NOW, (becuase my required pre bolus will hapily flatten me if I wait TOO long) as some kind of opulent, indulgent attitude.
