I am admittedly new to this and most of the time lancing is not bad. Every once in a while it hurts like the devil and the pain will last quite a while. I'm assuming I got lucky and took out a nerve.........

I seriously doubt that you hit a nerve. Sometimes it does hurt... Usually it hurts when it's time to change my lancet. :) Also it can hurt if you are sticking the pads of your fingers, rather than the sides. The tips will hurt too, occasionally.
Yea, i used to get that to!!! Alot more in the past than now..

:) Hi
Never let a doctor prick your finger they always go for the pads and does that hurt.I has been painful for 4 days. At least he got blood he said the person he stuck before wouldn't bleed.(I was tempted to tell him it was his technique but I have to work with him and it's a small town LOL):D
The sides of the fingers are best some times you feel it sometimes not
Take care from Alicat61:)

Are you new-ish to testing? I remember my finger tips were pretty sore at first. Now, if it hurts more than it should, it just means I need to stop being lazy and put a new lancet on the device.

Doc, as Jill said, it takes awhile for your fingers to adjust to be "stuck" all the time. I type all day long, and at first, my fingers felt bruised anytime I struck a key...now, I rarely notice anything.
Adjust your lancet to the smallest depth it takes to get blood....and do go more for the sides of the fingers than the pads. I generally keep mine on the 2nd depth setting. Last week,I didn't notice what the setting was....and it had gotten moved to 6...When I stuck myself, I did feel that i'd hit bone! ;) and my finger was sore all day long.

I find it hurts more if my finger is cold and I do find it's less painful to use side of fingers and not pads. That said I find my thumbs the best place to get blood easily and sometimes I need to remind my self that I have 8 fingers and to give my thumbs a rest!
