Hi, guys,
As you may know from my previous posts (I am new to the board, only a few posts) I follow a balanced carb and protein diet. On a daily basis, I eat 40gm fat (including omega 3's), 100gm protein, and 100 carb grams. The carbs and protein are more or less equal every time I eat. I have normalized my blood sugar, and lost 110 pounds.

Needless to say, the fast food industry is NOT balanced protein and carb, which is why it is killing us all. That said, there is a wonderful salad at Arby's which is very good, and is balanced protein and carb. It is called the Martha's Vineyard salad and it has 25 gm carbs and 27 gm protein.

Ingredients: chicken, apples, cranberries, slivered almonds, nice green salad bed and raspberry vinaigrette. I use my own low fat raspberry vinaigrette and save many grams of fat compared to the dose they give you in the regular salad dressing.

That sounds like my kind of salad...filling...but not too much. That's about two carb servings which I think is very moderate for lunch. Thanks for the tip! I never go to Arby's...will give the drive-thru a second chance for salad.

I probably wouldn't put a dressing on this salad...it has plenty of taste already, sound like.

I love the club salad at arby's. My problem is I usually get fries with it. I generally hate fast food, but arby's has a soft spot in my heart.

I like Arby's also when eating out. Did you know that you can get the big roast beef sandwich without the bun?? They will put it in one of the plastic go boxes for you. Then, put the meat on one side, the lettuce and tomato on the other, with a bit of salad dressing, VOILA!! Lean Roast Beef and a Salad!! Anybody know the claories and carbs?

John, you can buy a "Calorie King" book that lists nutritional values of different foods and restaurant foods. They also have a website you can check out. Also, I use dietfacts.com which lists brand name foods and their nutritional contents as well as popular chain restaurants.

I have printed out the menus of the ones we go to a lot and keep them in my car to refer to...for me, its easier to pick smart ahead of time, before I go in and see the specials.:o

That salad sounds just like the kind of thing I'd love! May have to try Arby's again... (we haven't been back since we had a bad experience, kind of funny actually, we went in to eat and it was SO hot in the restaurant; it must have been 90+ and it was wintertime! The heat was making me sick and my daughter freaked out-she is very overprotective of her Mom) Every time we pass the Arby's she cringes... If we go for the salad we'll use the drive -thru!

Just watch out for the BLT sandwich...I used to love to eat those when I was a starving working girl! Turns out they are almost 75 carbs (not exact, but somewhere around there...)

The bacon must be dipped in honey. The bread is good and thick too! Funny thing is that I ordered them "no mayo" to save calories!

I think I bolused about 45 carbs for the bread which wasn't enough once I finally looked up the actual carb total. Somewhere, there is a lot of carbs hidden in that bread and bacon!

They are good...good for fast food. I haven't had one in about 3 years, but probably will some day again...just a bigger bolus.
