View Full Version : Awesome Counter
The best counter I have ever found is at CalorieKing - Diet and weight loss. Calorie Counter and more.
Download their diet diary! It costs something, but you can click and drag your daily food intake into a diary, and know exactly what you are eating. This and your glucose testing will help you bring everything under control.
I use less carbs than they recommend, because I am diabetic, but they have the entire USDA food database in the program, and you can hit your targets for fat, protein and carbs, based on your size and weight goals.

Princesslinda tells me I need to use the rules when I post. Please disregard the link for Calorieking, and just google it.
But don't disregard the software! Best in the west for making a food diary.

Actually, people can get CalorieKing books free of charge from their pump reps. or CDEs/Endo offices. I did.
If they want to google the online CalorieKing & pay a fee to create a food diary, they can go that route, too. I gave Carwy my CalorieKing book, as he was recently diagnosed. It seems to help him, as does logging the foods he eats.

Muse, I know you mean well, but really to us it looks like you're a spammer when all of your posts talk about your specific diet, tools that you use, etc. Maybe it would be better if you search the forums before you post, since a lot of what you post we've seen before anyway.
Yes, I am normalized and I worked very hard to get that way. I am here to share that information for people that want to do the same, or can do the same because they are type 2. I am working with half a pancreas, so when I found the tools I mentioned, and the diet I mentioned, and normalized myself, I suddenly realized that the diet we think of as normal is not what the human body wants. They are killing us with the food they are serving, and even if it is because of ignorance, it is still killing us all.
So, believe me, I am not a spammer, I am a person who has won the battle. Believe me, it is a constant battle, but at least I can say that I have normalized myself not on low carb, not on insulin, but on just in time food, exercise, and supplements.
To tell me that you have seen it all before removes the raison d'etre for this board. It should be a place of open discussion and that is how I am treating it.
There has been no mention of recipecalc, no mention of calorieking, no mention of balanced protein and carb. Believe me, I checked. Show me one post that mentions any of this material.
I thank you for your input, but I am here to help others and I will continue to do so.

They are killing us with the food they are serving, and even if it is because of ignorance, it is still killing us all.
So who is this "they" you speak of? McD's, Burger King, other fast food places and restaurants? Don't go there then... How about the grocery store? Are you forced to put processed, packaged, sodium and pesticided foods into your cart? No? Don't buy them.
So, believe me, I am not a spammer, I am a person who has won the battle. Believe me, it is a constant battle, but at least I can say that I have normalized myself not on low carb, not on insulin, but on just in time food, exercise, and supplements.
And yet, you break the rules around here, and still sound like a spammer. You think that none of us are "battling" our disease? Read posts from those of us who have been around here for a long time and you'll see the battle we fight. A lot of us are winning too. Your program may be great for you, but it could also be harmful for some... If you come here implying that your way is the best way, prepare to be smacked verbally.
To tell me that you have seen it all before removes the raison d'etre for this board. It should be a place of open discussion and that is how I am treating it.
Yes, it is a place of open discussion. We have seen a lot of it before, granted all may be a strong word as new technologies are coming out all the time... diets, however, come and go.

While I agree there's no mention of recipecalc, which of the 99 threads would you like me to show you that deal with Calorie King? How about the 33 that talk about balancing proteins and carbs? Learn how to search properly and you'll find them as well.
I thank you for your input, but I am here to help others and I will continue to do so.
Not if everyone keeps telling you that you're breaking the rules here. I guess we'll see how long you last...

I'm glad you feel normalized, but I don't know what that even means.
We have talked about Calorie King before I know. We have had plenty of discussions about fat, carb and protein ratios.
When a new person comes to the forums, they usually don't storm in the way you have. If you mean well, and want to be part of this group, that's great. I feel the way Rikki expressed. You are very different than most newcomers.

You wouldn't find "recipecalc" on the forum as the link would have been removed due to advertising...just as yours was.
As for Calorie King, it is mentioned quite often, as you can see if you perform a forum search. Most of us are very familiar with it as a resource to help with carb counting.
It is very admirable of you to try and help others by sharing your experiences, as we are all here to learn from one another... but please keep in mind that what works for one may not work for another, as we are all at different stages of dealing with diabetes. There might even be things you can learn from us, as many here have been successfully dealing with diabetes for many, many years.
Everyone here is warm and caring, and we especially love to give advice (read: tell you what to do ).
A direct quote....
Perhaps I should mention some of my experience. I have helped over 600 people lose weight successfully. I have helped some 50 diabetics lower or get off their meds.
I realize there are many ways for many people, but what I have seen on a body composition scale has convinced me that protecting muscle mass while losing fat is the only way to go. Because it is muscle that burns calories. The human body is common to all of us - and it has certain requirements.
Unlike other diabetics who don't want to take insulin, I suggest that your doctor is your best friend, and that you need to find a doctor that will work with you as your learn to manage your diet and exercise and meds and supplements. Many of them won't do that - they don't have the time, or they don't believe anything can help other than meds. For whatever reason, it is very difficult for a newly diagnosed diabetic to find their way around, to come to an open attitude toward trying things out, and to change their lives so they can heal themselves.
That is what I am here to do, to transmit what I have learned. It is the highest thing I can do, given the scope of the issue that is facing all of us. Do you realize over 40% of the American population is headed toward end stage diabetes if they do not learn to manage their blood glucose? Just look at the "education" that is given.
So, rather than saying one formula is right, I am just giving everyone the benefit of my experience. It has worked for me, and perhaps it will work for others.
I assumed I could offer advice, just like everyone else here, as mentioned above. The difference is I have more experience than most.

That's a very broad statement to make, since there are around 10,000 members on here... you have more experience than most of them do you? Well aren't you the lucky one.
There are rules to be adheared to on this forum and MOST follow them... but then i guess you're in the minority again on that front... along with your vast experience that you think none of us have!

Well said Stuboy - agree with you.
!0,000 members and most with experience of diabetes - a LOT of experience there I would say!

there's a difference between sharing one's experiences and pronouncing or prescribing. There are ways, tones of voice (in writing as in speech), and, fundamentally--the biggest--respect. Muse, your pronouncements, your missionary tone and zeal, fundamtentally disrespects everyone else here who has their own experiences. Whatever the formal rules, engaging with others in a community space is the only and best way to participate. And it's the only true way to "share" experience.
