Can anyone give me some nighttime snack suggestions. I do really good on all my meals, but around 9:00 or so at night seem to get really hungry. If I saw I am going to eat just a little of something, it seems like I can't stop--eat more, bolus more, and so it goes.
I am trying to figure out I could eat as a good snack at night that would satisfy but not raise sugar to much. Also that wouldn't add too much weight.
Yes I should have more self control, but . . .

i keep a couple of good, long salamis hardening in the kitchen.
if i get the munchies a saw off a couple of slices and maybe have a bit of cheese with that.
low carb, little effect on BGLs and delicious.

I often have toast & vegemite or a bowl of cereal but today I bought heaps of Sanitarium Divine fruit & nut bars.
Can someone please advise me if these are on the forbidden list.
I'm stll a newby & havn't completed the D education program .
Each 30g bar has 143 cal /597kj
Total fat 9.5g
Carbs 9.5g
Sugars 7.7g
They are soooo yummy that I cant guarantee the safety of anyone that tries to take them all away from me :)

Some of my favorite nighttime snaces: cheese, nuts, teaspoon of peanut butter w/green apple, pork rinds (not all these at once of course;) )

Sugar-free pudding cups or jello are great snacks too!

I have recently found that 1 small hot-dog frankfurters microwaved, in a small pitta pocket with a small piece of cheese works really well for by BG, is really tasty and warm.
I just need to watch myself as I'm losing weight and don't want to fall of the wagon.

Some kind of nut butter works great, and lately I've been looking forward to it almost too much! A spoon of cashew butter is my favorite, but almond or peanut butter has a couple less carbs (6 instead of 8 carbs for 2 tablespoons). When I weighed what is supposed to be 2 tablespoons, I cut my dose in half! If a few extra carbs are needed, add some apple!
I know what you mean about that night eating. I could go all day without eating, then have an ongoing feast starting about 5 or 6pm. I also found these wonderful drinks in a silver container by the slimfast (lots of different stores) -- EAS (AdvantEDGE carb control) -- with 17 grams of protein (the similar looking ones with higher protein have 20+ carbs), 2 carbs (strawberry or vanilla), 4 carbs for the chocolate, and only 100 or 110 (choc) calories (3 or 4 grams of fat). Yummy.

Jan, I LOVE the EAS chocolate drinks...that's b/fast for me on the run. I like the portability of it, I throw one in my purse, doesn't have to be refrigerated (though it tastes better cold).

Celery stuffed with cream cheese (different types garlic, plain, chives what ever you like) also try stuffing celery with peanut butter.
I always buy a package of pepperoni sticks and have them around the house.

If you're oversnacking (I do this) find something you don't really like (probably something healthy). You probably don't need to worry about the carbohydrates since you bolus. I use carrots.

I'd hate to ask if you skip your early morning meal (when you go over board the night before).
I'd suggest trying to add more to your after noon snack and your early evening meal (supper) and hope you need less of a fix (nice protein little carbs) before bed snack
This is all to try to increase your appetite in the morning
This is a deep rut many people don't realize they are in.
But as they say breakfast is the most important meal for balance.
I do, usually, stop carbs (besides veggies)at 4:pm but I push carbs (as high as protein)for the other 4 meals.
As for snacks ,1\2 cup Cottage cheese ( I add a cup of yogurt).
and I "2nd"...... the apple with NATURAL peanut butter, another is cheese slice on rice cakes! All LOW FAT products (except PB,)

No, I eat breakfast. Usually either Cheerios with 1/2 banana and a little skim milk and a hard boiled egg, or oatmeal with 1/4 c. blueberries.
Lunch is usually a sandwich and 1/2 apple or the other 1/2 b.
Dinner is whatever we decide, but I eat fairly light. I have been having popcorn for an evening snack.
When I wake up high (sometimes I have a low during the night), I eat anyway and let the smart carb thing figure for the high and meal.
I know my basals are off too, but we can't seem to adjust them. Have lunch and dinner pretty good, but breakfast time is still high.
One thing is the snack. I mean to eat something mid morning and midafternoon, but usually forget.

You could have a 100-calorie pack.

For me, I need to try and avoid anything with significant carbs or protein if it's within 2 hours of bedtime. Otherwise, I often over or under bolus and end up going low or high overnight.

I have overbolused using the carb thing, and did drop low. If I don't bolus though I end up high in the morning. It acts very strange sometime. Sometime I just don't think my body follows the rules. Same food, etc. and different results. Thanks for all the answers though. I just didn't think of some of it (like celery and peanut butter--which I like). Guess I just want to grab "the bad stuff", then I can't seem to stop.

Pork Rinds!!! i just found these at my supermarket! i knew they were there somewhere.
What a great idea Linda - almost like low carb chips!!! i think these might be nice dipped in tsatziki.
Great idea!!!
:)

I love popcorn, and it is relatively low on the glycemic index - around 55. And 3 cups of it only has 15 carb grams.
The trick is to make sure it is air-popped, and served with equal grams of protein. My choice for that is hot whey protein cocoa, that I make with chocolate whey protein, hot water, and a stevia balance packet.
Sometimes I also sprinkle on nutritional yeast, which gives the popcorn a cheesy flavor and gives lots of natural chromium and B vitamins. Garlic, too, either salt or powder if you are on a salt restricted diet.
It is just like going to a movie, only better!

Joel, these can also be crushed and used as a crust for chicken or pork loin. Just crush them, moisten chicken breast or pork (I dip them in egg and water mixture), dredge meat in the crushed pork rinds and bake....the flavored ones are good as well...or just add some pepper flakes or garlic to the mix.
