Does or has anyone take Lantus in one dose in the morning?

Did you find this beneficial, or was it strange?
Did you find more hypoglycemic episodes in times of physical
activity or being busy?

Did you find your Humalog dosages more sensitive?

Would you recommend taking Lantus in the A.M.
over at H.S.?

Thanks again,
Ryan

Never tried it - I prefer to split mine, I take half at 9am and half at 9pm, so I get a nice flat basal all day long.

I take mine one dose in the a.m. No weird things for me, but everyone is different, especially with Lantus.

I just started taking Lantus and I was given a choice of one time in the morning or at night. I chose at bedtime.

Now can someone tell me this? I still have high after meal numbers...is lantus good for this or do I use some other kind of insulin before meals...at my next appointment I'm pressing for more treatment...also when is a pump indicated? I'm so desperate to eat that I wouldn't mind a pump at this point.

Orpy, Lantus is a basal insulin... a long-lasting that keeps your metabolism "idle" going throughout the day. It is NOT meant to bring down highs from meals. For that purpose you need to use a bolus insulin -- Humalog, Novolog or Apidra.

I split mine, 8u in the mornin and 11u in the evening. I need more basal through the night than i do during the day. Not sure if that's the norm but it works for me.

even though im on levemir now, i was using lantus for over a year and took the same split and difference.

I started out taking it at night, and switched to the morning after about 6 months. I now split the dose.
When I took it in the morning it was exactly like when I took it at night, just opposite. When taking it at night I had nighttime hypos...when taking it in the day I had to drastically reduce my breakfast humalog, and I still had hypos. That's why I split it.
It's just a totally individial thing. Through trial and error, you learn what works best for YOU.

Used to take it in a.m.. To high in a.m. so split dose a.m. and p.m. still to high in a.m. now just a p.m. dose. Seems to be different for just about everyone.

When I tried taking my full Lantus dose in the morning, I found that I had high blood sugars when I tested after waking up. I figured that this was because Lantus wasn't lasting the full 24 hours. The 6am shot was running out of steam in the early hours of the following morning. To deal with this, I split the shot evenly between evening and morning shots. It meant that I don't run out of insulin in the morning, and my blood sugar is a lot more stable. But you may have a different experience. Try out the morning shot and see what happens. ;)

same here.. I split mine as I was taking it at night and could see my numbers rising ever so slowly over the course of the day..

I take 100% in the morning, around 7 a.m.

I like to know how my "start up" is running with Lantus...that initial 4 hour period. Since I take a bolus for breakfast, I really don't run high in the mornings.

I still find I need to eat 10-15 grams of carbs at bedtime to wake up without a low...I don't experience DP, in fact, whatever the opposite of that...that's me.

I don't like the idea of taking a 24 hour insulin before bedtime...I'd rather see how I'm "running" for the day and take care of night time as needed with snacks...or no snacks.

I tried the splitting thing and prefer watching one curve action per day than two.

I take 30 units of lantus every morning. 20-25 units when I do school sports. i think its easy. I was thinking of doing it at night time instead of mornings, but so far it has worked for me.
