Hallo Everybody,
I'm new into this forum. I have a 12 years old son with diabetes that is using a Deltec Cozmo insulin pump. We are located in Greece and I am trying to find a way to source a Cozmonitor for my sons pump that will make my sons veryday life a bit easier. Since Cozmonitor is availiable only in the US, does anybody know if I fly in the US if I will be able to buy it or will I be asked for any documentation regarding it?
Thank you in advance!!!

The question would be would it even work with your pump. I'm sure they make minor software changes for pumps in different countries and therefore I wonder if your pump would even have the capibility of using it.
Why do you think it will make his life easier? It's nothing special besides a blood glucose meter attached to a pump. So I'm not sure what else you may think it does.

Thank you JediSkipdogg. What I mean, is that he considers very important to carry as less as he can of monitoring systems with him at school etc. The pump distributor here in Greece confirms that it will be compatible with his pump.

I can see how it would be useful for a schoolboy, for sure. However he still would have to carry strips and a pricker to make it functional, yes? Some testers today are very small... I don't know what you can get there but I am looking at the sensocard currently ... Road Testing Blood Glucose Meters (http://www.realitycheck.org.au/glucometers_test.htm#senso)
I just feel that once he needs to carry strips and pricker, it is not that much more to carry a tester too - the advantage of the cozmonitor may not be as great as you think. But I applaud any and all efforts to make his life easier. Good luck to you and your son.

Thanks Subby all the best to you too.
Hi Nikos,
There is more that a Cozmonitor does than simply testing blood sugar. It is permanently attached, as you know, to the back of the Cozmo pump (making it not waterproof, by the way.) The Cozmonitor "talks" to the pump through an infared port and the readings of the monitor appear on the pump. The pump then has the reading and uses it in calculating a corrective bolus. The reading is then kept in the "history" section of the pump and can be recalled for reference at any time.
This is especially helpful when correcting a high reading, as it refigures the appropriate dose after each blood test.
I find it very convenient and I would say it is worth it. I carry a very tiny zipper bag with a half-sized poker and a tiny plastic tube of strips (I transferred them from the larger tube they came in.) I keep my extra set in the same bag with an alcohol wipe. It makes a very small package.

Yes, that is a nifty feature. When I got my pump I was dissapointed at how little progress was made in linking existing or new IR enabled monitors with my pump. Very disapointed, IR has been around for years and pump technology is getting on as well. I assume the dragging it may be to do with wanting to drive cgms sales. But I wish they just used this existing cheap tech to make our lives easier!

If you can get someone to order one from Deltec for you, they can send it to you. I just did this for someone from Germany. I was able to order two of them with no trouble just from the website. I asked my rep if there would be a problem with our warranty because of this. He assured me that there would be no problem. He has gotten them and sent me a picture of his pump showing the text in German and showing his blood sugar. He sent me a money order to cover the costs. I feel as if I have done my good deed, but I wanted to post this in case anyone else was willing to help you out. He posted on the ADA boards and many people were concerned that they would void their own warranty. You do have to have an account set up with Cozmo though. He could not order it himself even though he has family here. You just check the box that says that you do not want them to try for insurance coverage. There is no tax or shipping charges added to the order. This man is a police officer and he wanted the meter attached so that he had less to carry around. Oh, and you do need to order the extra cap that we all got with the Cozmo in order to attach the meter to the pump. It is an extra 20.00. I hope one of the Cozmo users here will help you out. I really don't think that they would sell one to you even if you came here. This man was going to be visiting soon, but didn't think that he could get one any other way.

Hi Melissata, That's great news. I have friends in Florida willing to help but since they do not carry a pump it is not possible. If anyone from the Cozmo users could help please just let me know in order to send him a money order and a courier account number to send it to me in Greece. Thank you very much.

Hi Mich, that's exactly what I meant when I said "makes his life easier". Thanx.

I am also in the same position. I am using a Cozmo 1800 and would like to find someone to help me get a Cozmonitor (and a spare just in case) so that I don't have too much equipment to carry around when taking part in sport.
I am in the UK so getting them direct just isn't possible.
If you can help me, please get in touch.
Thanks
David

David are they calibrated to work in UK numbers?
I have the 1800 too. I do have the monitor but haven't used it as was told it wasn't calibrated.

I have a CozMonitor if anyone wants me to mail it to them. Think I have an extra cap, too. It's summer in TX now; I'm gardening, and I worry a lot about ruining it due to water, or sweat (lost several this way). I've gone back to a handheld meter. Not that much of a problem manually inputting the BG numbers, plus it's thinner. Send me a private msg. w/ your address--Dottie Love

The BGL can be changed from mg/dl to mmol/L by going to your Cozmo 1800's 'Setup' screen, 'Quickstart' then scroll to the fourth selection.

Yes I know that :) but not everyone is a walking calculator.

It is NOT permanently attached. I have one. The only reason it is attached at all is so that the IR ports line up but you can manually hold the Cozmonitor over the ports and it will work just fine.
Yes I know that :) but not everyone is a walking calculator.
What he said is that the meters output will display either units of measurement you want
Freestyles are pretty well known for their accuracy -
To use an analogy - if a thermometer is accurate does it change its accuracy if you set it to display Celsius or Fahrenheit ?
By permantly attached, I didn't mean glued on. The meter is attached by hooking it around the battery cap and screwing it down. For many people who use one, they only take the Cozmonitor off when they are going to swim (switching battery caps first) or they need to download pump info into their computer via the infared port.
It is good to know W5wjp, that we can use it without ithe Cozmonitor being attached. Thanks!
