Does anyone closely monitor their salt intake? How much do you attempt to stay below?
I know I could ask my Dr. too, but I enjoy hearing responses on here, before and after...
I have borderline high blood pressure, and family history of high blood pressure and heart disease. I don't smoke, drink rarely, and exercise moderately.

I have always cut back on salt. We usually put 1/3 to 1/2 of what a recipe calls for. The only foods I salt on the plate are eggs and ... ya, I think just eggs.

I do the same as xMenace when cooking, cut back from the recipe. As for putting salt on food I'm eating, I just never did it. To me most food already has enough salt (maybe to much). I can't even remember seeing a salt shaker at home.

I have been on BP meds for years, but I never really was one to add much salt to foods. Well, I always forget that I use lots of Onion Salt when I cook. I have tried to reduce that some by just using Onion Powder, and I never add tablesalt to anything I eat.
To be quite honest, I think I'd go crazy if I really worried about salt along with sugar, carbs and fat too!

My husband has never used salt. I was a heavy salt user (added at the table). Since our diagnosis within a couple of months of each other - I've stopped using salt completely. To tell you the truth - I really don't miss it. The foods I use to salt heavily like spinach - I now just do without adding salt and was surprised how easy it was to adapt.
