I got a refill for my Contour Ascensia last week and the pharmacist gave me Ascensia Microfill strips instead of Contour strips. When I told her, she said - oh, there's no difference, Ascencia Contour is the new name. The ones I gave you will work just the same but will expire in July.

So I started them today and now my meter counts down 15 seconds instead of 5. I called Bayer and they confirmed that the Microfill strips require 15 seconds. I don't want to create a fuss over the 10 second difference, but I feel cheated. Should I ask for an exchange? I've already used a few of the strips. And what have we come to that we balk at a 10 second delay

If you are getting a 15 sec count , then those are the older strips. They changed the packing when the new 5 sec meter came out. If you are using a blue and silver contour and get older strips , the microfil ones will give a longer count, 15 seconds instead of the 5 you get with the newer strips, the microfil are the ones that were used with the older model , solid blueish color contour, which is a 26 sec count I think.
If you dont mind the extra 10 seconds and will use these before they expire, you dont need to exchange them IMO, but that is up to you.

kinda looks like the pharmacy had too many of these strips in stock and was trying to get rid of them before they expired. I prob would use the strips this time but when I get a refill I would check to see if he gave me the same strips. If he did I would tell him this was not what was prescribed. If he insists there are other pharmacies that would love your business.

I probably wouldn't exchange them, but I would ask for the newer ones from now on. Fifteen seconds is a pain. Gosh, I remember the days when you waited a minute or more for results. I was thrilled when the new meters would much quicker.

Did you only get one box? If you did, use them and then tell your pharmacist not to give you any more of his old stock!

I recently upgraded to the new Contour and strips... 5 seconds Oh Boy! It's amazing how quickly we get used to things and take them for granted, so I feel your pain :o

Thanks everyone - I had decided not to ask for an exchange, but I am going there today to tell them that the Microfill should not be dispensed instead of the Contour esp when Contour is the one the client orders.

Mmm now if I waste 10 seconds 8 times a day = 1 minute and 20 seconds = 9 mins and 20 secs per week = 37 1/4 mins per month. Never mind the five minutes it took me to figure this out. I could have gotten another full workout in this time :)
