Hi again, Natalie :) Glad you've found us; this group is great at answering any questions you may have. It's also a fun, friendly group that's great for a laugh :D I'm sure you'll enjoy it here and I hope to see you often.

As to your Diabetes, are you on MDI's or the pump?

Always great to welcome another Canadian!

Happy posting

thanks :)

yeah i've already had a question answered quick which was great ^^

MDI's? is that short for Manual Diabetic Injections? cuz it if is..then yes. I inject Humolog R(morning + dinner) and Humolog N(morning + 10pm), thee times daily. I'd never use the pump. Or the pen. Those scare me. I used long tip needles before the short tipped came out, so I'm used to the needles and anything that takes the control of how fast the needle is put into my body, freaks me out.

MDI is short for Multiple Daily Injections. Basically it's 4 or more shots a day.
I've had Type 1 for 13 years and have used the long and short tipped needles (both syringes and pen tips), the pens, and the pump (which I'm on currently). The pens don't alter the speed of injection, it's still completely manual. They just make transportation more convenient. But you have to stick with what works :D
How is your control and/or your A1c's?

Yeah, sometimes it's difficult to change, especially when what we're doing is working. Nothing wrong with that :) I personally am the type who loves to get new stuff lol; I like to be able to pull it out and show all my friends  like "oooh look at what I have" LOL. The new technologies also excite me!
If you have a good CDE, he/she can show you the pen if you're interested. And heck, they're always good for free stuff, like meters ;)

Are you happy with that number or are you trying to improve it?

Excuse me if I'm asking too many questions!

no i've actually used the Pen before. it was horrible. it gave me like..10 extra units :S and I've also used the pen that you just press a button and it puts the needle in, but you still push the insulin in. freaked me out.

no my doctors still trying to improve it. but its better than it was before. it might not have been 8 though. for some reason I remember 12 and 14..but i think those were the A1C's before that

Yikes I can certainly understand why you don't like the pens if that happened  !!

Has your doctor ever talked to you about analogue insulins [Humalog (Lilly) and Novorapid (Novo-Nordisk)]? Their onset of action is more rapid and the duration is shorter; I know when I switched from Toronto to Novorapid I found my post-prandial readings improved. Might be helpful in your quest to lower your A1c; just a suggestion.

yeah i've had a talk with my doctor about different options. But i dont like the idea of doing my needle when I want to eat. I'd rather do it when i wake up in the morning, when i eat dinner and before I go to bed. I wa son Humalog H for a while though..but then mom forgot when she went and got my insulin and since I've been taking Humalog R again haha but its working, so the doctor isnt changing it again.

Welcome to our world...as for the piercings...you brought up a good point. I don't even have my ears pierced (was told I couldn't!!!) but I am going to ask when I go to the doc. in October.

Belinda - thank you. yeah I was always told I couldnt get anything other than my ears done..because if they got infected my mom said bad things would happen. I was going to get my labret done..but is actually apparently really bad..cuz they do get infected a lot and the metal usually rubs against the gums so you end up with problems with your teeth. :S atleast thats what the nurse told us when we called and asked about it.

Heather - nice to meet you too :D lovely group of people, everyone's very nice :D
