Hello All,

When 1st diagnosed with T2 a couple of months ago I was very good with logging everything I ate along with carbs/fat and protein. As with all things 'new' I have slipped. I am now starting to use an UltraSmart so I can put in the carbs, fat and protein at every meal, etc thinking I will have all info in one location and can move away from writing food down in a log book.

I am now thinking maybe I should be going back to jotting down WHAT I eat as well, seeing that the type of food eaten is good to know to see how it affects BG.

So, I was wondering how everyone else deals with this? Do you just care about carbs and not type of food, both, if both how do you log, etc, etc.

Thanks,
Eric

I've been a faithful logger since being dx'd. I use a 5-1/2" x 8" daily appointment book. In it, I log the time, my BS reading, the food I ate & how many units of insulin I took to cover that meal. I also make a notation of any exercise I did or any illness (migraine, cold, etc) that I am having.

When I test two hours after meals and need a correction, I add a "c" next to the units

So far, I've logged my BG levels in my book, and made notations about what I'd eaten when the levels are up.

When I first started this GI diet, before I was DX, I kept track of everything. I eat a lot of the same things for breakfast and lunch, so I don't track it nearly as often, since I sort of have a feel for that sort of thing, now. I'm more apt to keep track of what I have for supper, since that tends to have the most variables.

I do keep track a couple of times a week, though, just to make sure I'm staying on the straight and narrow.

I have a pretty good document I made. I got one I liked from my dietician, but it was crooked, faded, and partially off the page... So I remade it. It is a bigger file than what is allowed to attach here... PM me if anyone wants to see it... Or give a suggestion on how to share it. Google docs messed up its formatting...

I use winglucofacts which downloads contents of my ascensia contour, and then I add insulin dosage and notes. I am still contemplating how to log my carb intake.
