Both of my doctor's were pleased with my numbers (averaging at 108 for 3 weeks). My doctor was also impressed that I lost 20 pounds in 3 weeks. I am sure the drastic weight loss was from not knowing what to eat the first week after my diagnosis and then also after having gallbladder surgury last week, I had no desire to eat for a couple days).

My doctor was concerned that my morning numbers were still a little high (between 98-115 in the AM) so my dosage of metformin has been increased to 500mg x 2 daily.

At first, I was a little dissapointed that my doctor increased my dosage but then my wife convinced me that the doctor was just being aggressive with my case. I love how my wife make me see things from a different perspective. My wife has been the driving force in keeping me going through all of this, I might add, and I am forever grateful that God has paired me up with her. :)

Anyway, my numbers over the past couple days have dropped to 82-90 and holding steady testing 3-4 times daily. I think the numbers look good but am wondering how long my body will be able to maintain this. My diet has completely changed. I am now eating for 1 person instead of 3. The lo-carb approach seems to be working well for me at this time. My goal is to try to put this beast into remission. I know the chances are slim to do that but it is my goal in life to keep trying and never stop.

Aurelius, sounds like you are doing a great job, and you should be proud of yourself!

Don't be bummed out that your doctor raised the metformin....500 mg twice daily is the "standard" dose. I'm not sure it will do a lot with the morning #s, as I think that has a lot to do with "dawn phenomenon"....mine are always higher than the 110 or less goal they set for me, usually 112-118...regardless of what I eat or don't eat, but the rest of my day falls well below the goals they set, so I do the best I can and don't worry about it too much.

Its wonderful that you have such a supportive wife by your side...i'm not sure what I would have done without my husband.

Keep up the good work and the great attitude!

Really good report. Control is what we all strive for. Some need insulin or pills but we all want a report like yours.

Glad your doc appointment went well, even though you were disappointed that he increased your Metformin. I have several friends who followed the low-carb diet approach, lost weight, started getting in some type of exercise, and was able to get off Metformin completely.

So.............Keep up the hard work! And Bravo to your wonderful wife who's supporting you all the way!

Good report and congratulations! I hope to get the same when I see my endo on May 1. My numbers haven't been as low as yours, and I'm on the Met 3x a day. I still suspect my birth control is interacting with it. We'll see what happens next week.

I'm glad to hear you're doing so well! That's wonderful!

Thanks all. I just had another follow-up visit this morning to check my blood pressure and to see how the numbers are looking. My doctor told me that my numbers are better than a lot of people who don't have diabetes which was nice to hear. Blood pressure was good this morning as well. My doctor told me she initially thought she would have to ramp me up to a higher dosage of metformin but after seeing the numbers I presented her, she held off of the additional increase. Hopefully, this is the beginning of a turn-around for me. Wish me luck.

I have to add that I am so glad I found a doctor that really cares about me. My previous doctor told me I was diabetic, handed me a perscription for metformin and then walked out of the room. :( That left me VERY confused and angry. From other stories I have read in this forum, that seems to happen a lot. You would think there would be some protocol that is supposed followed.

My new doctor offered diabetes education classes, mental help for my severe depression etc. She has really turned me around.

Congratulations! You are on the fast track to better health! We cannot rid ourselves of diabetes but we can certainly keep it at bay and improve the quality of our lives! You are doing that and are a true inspiration! Having a supportive spouse beside you is a real blessing!
