Hi,
I had my 6 month checkup last wednesday. The A1C was stable at 7.0, blood pressure slightly elevated. Since this was the third visit that the bp was elevated I was prescribed Norvasc. While on the drug, it didn't take long for me to become very tense and argumentative, and I'm a pretty mellow guy. So I googled for the side effects, I actually had 4 of the listed side effects going. The list of side effects was pretty long and it included ED! Heck I'm in my early 40's everything still works. I didn't want to take any changes with it so I called the Dr and informed her that my ears are ringing and I'm pretty tense, It started two days after I started taking Norvasc... she said.. don't take any more, I'll prescribe something else. Well I was reading on the net and stumbled upon this link at the University of Maryland:
Coenzyme Q10 (http://www.umm.edu/altmed/articles/coenzyme-q10-000295.htm)
So I figured what the heck, I'll by a bottle of 30 200mg and try iit. I'm staying away from the BP meds for now. I'm active and the BP isn't at a moderate level. The BP was 130/90 at the Dr. Office and I bought my own test cuff.. 128/80 most of the time. Lowering my BP with the risk of ED, or falling asleep while I drive the 1Hr. 20 minute commute to work is not worth the risk to me.
It took self discipline to not lose my temper this week. It's kind of how I deal with anxiety I guess. That was the root of it. My best description is I felt kind of depressed for NO REASON while I was on this drug. I'll let you all know if the coenzyme q10 helps reduce the BP and BG levels.
I'd rather take a risk with Q10 since it's found in the the foods we eat, such as fish (mackerel and herring).
Well.. now I'm going to try to get my A1C down to 6.5
