Wish me luck all. Next Thursday I go in for my eye vacuuming. I'm surprisingly calm about it at this point but I'm sure I'll get more worked up the closer Thursday comes. ;) I think I'll go get an eye patch and play pirate for a week. :D

Don't worry. They'll give you an eye patch. The only tough part is finding a pirate costume and parrot to match the royal blue http://www.emofaces.com/en/emoticons/p/pirate-with-parrot-emoticon.gif

HI PJ

Amazing how accepting you get when you have no choice, isn't it? I'll be thinking of you. Remember, it's really nothing to be afraid of these days, they have the entire procedure figured out.
You will be astounded how much simpler it is than you imagined.

I laughed at you saying you would "get a patch" because they will slap one one whether you want it or not. Mine was white and puffy with a hard plastic shield, held on by SUPERTAPE. We are talking tape that would keep the space shuttle on a 747! Bad me. When it really started itching because my eye was watering underneath, I took it off early. No worries. It stuck right back in place with the same tape and the doc was none the wiser ;)

AAArrrrgh! Remember your sword and bandanna, matey!

I ran out to get some strips and syringes at lunch one day this week. There was a man at the counter wearing a blue patch taped over his eye. Of course I recognized it and struck up a conversation. This man just came from cataract surgery. I didn't know they gave patches for those. He was looking rather distraught at first, but he was smiling when he left. I suppose it helps to know you are not alone. When I went in, there were 22 surgeries scheduled that day. Buddy next to me had a torn retina. I saw a patch in the cafeteria too.

Don't be shy afterwards. Just practice that aaaargh!

I see dead people. :D John it swirls and moves constantly so it's hard to say. One minute I can see 20/40 and the next 20/100 depending on where the cloud is.

I was just reminded in another post that you'll want a mild laxative. They gave me Senokot S.

Throne groans are not something you'll want to experience.

Good luck if you're up and about. I know I would be.

I'll keep you in mind tomorrow with good thoughts.

They didn't give me any Senekot before mine. I guess it's a crapshoot. Ooooooo. Bad.

Wishing you a straight, easy and inteesting day,

Are you having a virectomy to eliminate floaters? I've been strongly considering the same surgery to get all this **** out of my eyes.

No.

He will probably check in after his follow-up today. My surgeon talked with me about it in post-op, but I went back the next day for an exam.

His vision right now is pretty blurry and he's in quite a bit of discomfort. There wasn't much pain, but it was an odd, uncomfortable few days.

Well friends that was a trip. For anyone out there that has fears about this procedure you shouldn't. This was easier and less stressful than all the laser sureys I've had done. John's description is very accuate of the whole thing. Doc walks in asks

How's it going
Pretty good...zzzzzzzzz
Hmmmm am I snoring..zzzzzzzz
What's that light and strange looking....zzzzzzz
Wow this is a trip I wonder if...zzzzzzzz
All done Chris we're going to wheel you into recovery now!

That was it, off I went to Tim Hortons and rested the the rest of the day. The itching is driving me crazy but I go for my post op apt in about 2 hours so I'll get the low down then. The Doc did tell my wife that all went well and there was no damage so he just vaccumed out and topped me off. Thanks for the support everyone and I'll let you know what I find out later.

That is good news.

I expect an easy recovery. They didn't hoover the retina like they did me, so chances of any complications are probably next to none.

Hopefully it stays clean inside.

Well after a 3 hour wait I blew my Doctors mind. I was 20/50 the day after surgery which he has never seen or heard of. Woo Hoo for me. So no I'll start my regiment of drops and see him again next week but he said all is clear on the northern front. As always thanks for the support and encouragement. :D I would have to say at this point the worst part is the itching....Grrrrr!

Do you have stitches or was it the new sutureless procedure? Itching says stitches to me.

The worst part right now is the itching.

I couldn't agree more with both of those comments. The itching was insane! I all but tied my hands together when I'd go to bed. I was afraid I'd scratch and rub it all night. The stitches got worse before they got better for me. One day the inside of my eyelid keep bleeding, as it had been rubbed raw. A cold compress made it feel so much better. That itching should be gone within a week or so.

I'm glad there were no major issues and your vision improves with each follow up appointment!

It's been almost a year since my first one, I go back to the doc next month and hopefully I'll get the all clear for another 3 months. It may have been easier than dealing with the laser, but I don't want to do either any time again soon.

Today will be my 1 week check up, I'll let you all know what happens. My vision is different, it's kinda like a cheesy movie dream scene bright and hazy. I wonder if that's from being permenantly dialated for the last week. Ahh I guess I'll find out later.

One week out and I'm 20/30 woohoo! I do have some distortion from the stitches but as my eye heals that should go away. Next check up is in 3 weeks.

I'm jealous-- I was awake for mine.

They covered me completely except for the eye.
Gave me a little something in the IV to relax me and an injection in the eye to deaden it. After that My vision was gone except for the good eye under the sheet.
I listened to my doctor talk to me and sing hymns. I was not to move a muscle during the procedure.

I did not get a patch just gauze and tape.

I took my covering off to early because my eyelashes were moving across the gauze and driving me crazy.

Now after many about 10 years, I see a different shade of blue when looking though the lens of a video camera. WEIRD
