Finally started using the inset 30's....

I have been using the Silhouettes by MiniMed almost since I first started pumping in 2000. My first two sets were 90° sets and they were so painful. So I tried the Silhouette and loved it, then when they came out with the Sil-Serter it made it all even better. Even when I went to Cozmo in 2004, I stayed with the Silhouettes.

When I opened the box to the sil-serter, my eyes bugged out! To me, it looks more like an interrogation tool, I just do it manually. I like the silhouettes a lot. A comfortable angle over the straight in quicksets.

Congratulations on the great A1C. I have been using the Inset 30s off and on since they came out. How much of the cannula should show in the opening? Sometimes it doesn't seem like much of it is under the skin, but my numbers are good. Sometimes after I bolus I see a wet spot and then change sets. When this happens the cannula is laying on the top of my skin. I am VERY careful when I insert it to make sure the feet are in the correct position and still sometimes get bad insertion. Do you have any insertion secrets to make sure it goes in correctly? I really like the Inset 30s other then the failed sites. They are so comfortable to use.

i have no secrets to share so far. im on my second set ever. did put that one to close to my ribs though, so it's been hurting some. im changing today, going back to my favorite spot on my lower back.

How do you reach to insert much less remove a set on yiur lower back? You musy be a gymnast!

I had requested samples twice and still did not receive them, so I ordered a box to give it a try. I'm on my second set this morning; first one was fantastic--while I thought the original insets were great, I still had some sensitivity when inserting. These do not hurt at all. But...this morning looks like more of the cannula is sticking out. I tried to measure it against the old one to see how much was actually under the skin, but really couldn't tell. Tested about an hour after and BS is 102 so I guess for now it's working! My guess is that I may have to change it sooner if the insulin pools at all, or be on the look out to make sure it doesn't become dislodged due to the cannula situation. With the first inset it appeared as if I had better control than the 90 degree ones, but I also noticed I had to change it out sooner. I was surprised how red the area looked this morning and thought it was a good thing I had planned time to change it anyway, or else I'd be late(er) :eek: for work. Please keep posting your experiences as I'd like to see how others' usage mirrors, or doesn't, my own.

As near as I've been able to figure, only about 1/8" of the cannula is actually under my skin. That doesn't seem like much, but my numbers have been normal. Even too low at times. I have had others where I could see the cannula going in like in the middle of the opening. I'm very interested in reading others' experience with them.

i find that they rarely hurt putting in. although when i put one to close to my ribs it hurt like ### when i was sleeping and stretched out.

I dunno how i manage to put em on my lower back, hm. i guess i to twist and bend quite easy :)

I'm not quite sure if the Inset 30 works for me - yes - BG's are fine - but I have found that the cannula doesn't seem to go in as much as when I manually insert the the 45 degree infusion set. I am getting ready to change the Inset 30 I put in a few days ago - since now when I bolus over 3 units - I get quite the stinging sensation - which I don't find pleasant. Anything under 3 units - I don't feel - but more - yes. Has anyone experienced this same feeling?

Usually I can keep in the 90 degree or 45 degree infusion sets in for 3-5 days without any problems like this.

I was self taught on putting these in - so perhaps I'm doing it incorrectly. Animas did send me instructions today - with pictures - rather then my following the written instructions - and I have been doing it correctly.
