At 10:30 last night I tested 76 so I ate 4 peanut butter crackers and some juice, I retested at 11 and I was only 78 so I ate two snickerdoodle cookies retested at about 11:10, 80 "yea its coming up" SO I went to bed and I woke up at 11:45 and felt like I was going to throw up, so I went a layed on the bathroom floor for about ten minutes...nothing happened so I went back and got in my bed and started to feel shaky I tested 56 'crud' I had the worst stomach ach ever and now my sugar was low....I just broke down I was so exausted I didn't wanna wake my mom up because she's a grouch if ya wake her up in the middle of the night. So I went in the Kitchen and got me a big cup of milk and a straw and sipped on it and went and watched t.v so that I would stay awake till my sugar came up. Finally at 1:00 it came up to 160.

(sry this was so long) Thats my rough night!!

Molly,

Sorry you had a rough night, hope you are feeling much better today. Us parents are often grouches when they are woken in the middle of the night, sorry about that, it's not just your mom. But, ya know what, sometimes we are worse if you don't wake us! Yeah, I know, you can't win! ;)

Feel better,

Molly,

Sounds like fun. Do you always get sick when going low?

Understand first off that meters are not accurate. An 80 is the same number as a 76, a 65 and an 85. They are approximate values only.

In addition to the reading, you also have to figure out why you went low and whether you expect it to continue. Perhaps you miscalculated your carbs or your activity was high. You'll usually be able to figure it out. It matters more as you get older and less able to pop out of hypos.

An 80 is a bit low for going to bed for many, but some of us do it fine. A 160 is definately too high IMO.

I beleive i took a bit to much for my bed time snack I had to guess so thats probly why I went low.

Next time I will get some Milk with them cookies...

160 is atually good for me cuz my blood sugar renge is aroung 150.

Do you have a tendency to drop in the night or other times?

Molly, sorry you had such a rough night. I've had lots of those nights in the past.
I was diagnosed at 14 and my mom was such a light sleeper, she always knew when one of us was up. And you always had to pass her bedroom to get to the kitchen. :)

Speaking of angry mothers ...

I was hypoing the other night, #4 this year, and my wife was feeding my juice and glucose tabs. The conversation apparently went

DW: "John you need to test!"
John: "hand me my cell phone."

DW: "John you need to test!"
John: "hand me my cell phone."

DW: hands John the meter "here John, test!"
John: "what if I don't want to?"

DW: shoves another Glucose tab down John's throat ...

She was not happy the next day ;)

You need to buy some orange juice to have on hand when your glucose is low like that. 1 glass of orange juice will bring up up quickly. I'm glad you bounced back! Lows are not fun!

I drank some fruit punch but i guess it didn't help.

Orange juice is great but will spoil over time. The best results for me is Capri Sun in the pouch. It really straightens me out fast and has an amazing shelf life. The are in my car, golf bag, hunting gear---almost everywhere. In fact, my Endo uses juice boxes and Capri Sun in his office when people get low.

Sorry you had a rough night :( As the parent of a 17 year old boy I am constantly amazed at just how much teenagers have to deal with these days and he doesn't even have Diabetes  I tell my son (Joshua) to call me when he is away on trips and I don't care what time it is... I'm also grumpy when awoken from a deep sleep but when it comes to my son I'd always rather know he was OK... I suspect that your Mom is the same way :)

That's a GREAT IDEA! Capri Sun will work fast.

BTW my Mom's name was Morfydd Ioli (Welsh)... the single 'f' is pronounced more like a 'v' and the double 'dd' is more like a 'th' sound. My Dad always called her "Molly Olly" or Molly for short :)

YouTube - #14 Little Richard - good golly miss molly (http://youtube.com/watch?v=MhybWFjuN2g&feature=related)

Good golly miss Molly, sure like to ball,
Good golly miss Molly, sure like to ball,
A-When you're rockin' and a rollin', can't hear your mama call.

From the early early mornin' to the early early night,
When I caught miss Molly rockin' at the house of blue lights,
Good golly miss Molly, sure like to ball,
A-When you're rockin' and a rollin', can't hear your mama call.

Mama, papa told me 'Son, you better watch your step',
If'n your Papa's Mama had to watch my Papa's step ,
Good golly miss Molly, sure like to ball,
A-When you're rockin' and a rollin', can't hear your mama call.

Ahhhhhhhh

(Music)

Good golly miss Molly, sure like to ball,
Whooo
Good golly miss Molly, sure like to ball,
A-When you're rockin' and a rollin', can't hear your mama call.

Goin' to the corner gonna buy a diamond ring,
When she hugs me and kiss me make me ting-a-ling-a-ling
Good golly miss Molly, sure like to ball,
A-When you're rockin' and a rollin', can't hear your mama call.

You are on a bad roller coaster ride! It almost sounds like you bolused too much to kick off the bad low and now you have gone overboard in trying to correct. All of us have done that a few times. Be patient and bolus small amounts and check every half hour until you get straightened out. Be careful not to "stack" boluses that will get you in trouble again.

My granddaughter calls me from her house when she wakes up sick in the middle of the night! :D Sure I am a little groggy from being woke, but I would want to know so I can help. Molly, I think you should be talking to your Mom about all of this, it doesn't sound like something you should be dealing with alone. Like Fgummett says, I suspect she would want to know, and she might be able to help.

I would put them 2 hours apart, just to make sure you don't stack them. Molly do you have a correction factor? Its only a guide, might be useful.

If not: Add up all the units of insulin you have in a day (on average) and divide by 1800, that would give you the amount of "points" (mg/dl) your sugar level would drop from one unit of insulin. Ask your mum to help you and keep testing, no matter what.

I find it hard at 21 to cope with all of this diabetes stuff, never mind 14, i really can't imagine how hard it is.

If your mum wants to know more:

I'm sure she wasn't. :-
Of course, she's done this so many times before that she is probably used to it. At least this time you weren't trying to hold the ceiling up. ;)

I keep Capri Suns in my classroom. They are very handy. Which reminds me, I used the last one on Friday and need to buy more.

I feel lucky to not run into these difficulties. Like I don't know, my numbers are just always so good...... dinner at bs81 was 2 huge plates of spaghetti, tons of meatballs. Directly after that went on a mile walk to play some ball, did that for hours, walked home, sugar is 90, about 5 hours after dinner. Things just work themselves out for me, its nuts. Then tonight, 2 huge pieces of blueberry pie with whipped cream when I got back, bs 90, then test bs90 two hours later. I don't normally eat this much but everything is just clicking now, I feel no limits.

Hello Molly, It's scary having to be low especially overnight like you don't want to disturb anyone and crawl to the fridge or just the kitchen just to get you BG up. I am happy to hear that you are OK for now. You should have something in your bedroom with some jelly beans or something to get you out of a low. :)
