It's very frustrating. When I eat carbs, say 20 to 30 grams at a meal, my bg will be around 130 in two hours. No carbs at all today and only 10 last evening and my bg is 102. How do you folks get it down to the 80's?

102 is ok. What are you eating? There are some carbs in fruit and veg as well.
Also remember that if you don't have enough carbs your liver will dump glucose to keep you going.
Are you exercising? What meds are you on?
Tell us a bit more about yourself so that we can help a bit more.

Heather.

Sometimes it makes no difference if you eat anything! The last few days, my fasting numbers have been 150 to 180.....that is after at least 12 hours fasting and my 97 units of Lantus at bedtime. Then like this morning, I took my pills and 20 units of Novolog, ate nothing, and at noon, I was still 145. Almost afraid to eat. Some days I would be "on the floor" with a low from not eating for 4 hours. After all this time, I still can't figure out a real plan that works.

For breakfast, I had a Ham and cheese omelet
For lunch I had 2 baked chicken breasts.
I make this myself so I know what's in them.
Total carbs should be zero or close. I take Glyburide.

I'll test again in a couple hours.

Have you tried using FitDay - Free Weight Loss and Diet Journal (http://www.fitday.com) ?
This will give you an exact carb (and just about everything else) count for foods. For instance, 1 raw egg = 3g carbs etc.
I use it a lot and it really helps as you can also put your exercise in, everything from walking downstairs in the morning to full on exercise and see what you are burning in terms of carbs, calories etc.
Hope this may be of help.

Maybe I'm looking at the wrong carb book. The two I have say one large egg is 0g carbs and .6g carbs depending on which one you read?

I am using Collins gem: carb counter, it states that eggs are 1.3g for omelette with cheese (2 eggs, 10g butter, 25g of cheese). Illness can causes raises in bg. What medication care you taking, would help us work out whats going on ;) .

I very rarely see the 80's.
My numbers are pretty much like your 's and my Doc is fine with it.
My A1C is 6.0

I have high blood pressure, arthritis, acid reflux, irritable bowel, anemia and had cancer of my thyroid, now removed. Now add diabetes to the list. I would put my list of meds up against anyone:
Lisinopril
Diltiazem
Tramadol HCL
Mesalamine
Glyburide
Gemfibrozil
Levothryroxine NA
Simvastatin
Ferrous Gluconate
Omerprazole
Lomotil

And a few more as needed.
How's that for a list. I'm hoping by lowering my bg, some of my other issues may subside.

Insulin !

My respects......I hope I don't ever get to that situation where I have to take insulin. I take enough medications without having to add that to my plate.

I take Metformin, and it helps me.
I would use insulin, but as of now, I dont need it.
Insulin would give my pancreas a rest.
Talk to your doctor about Metformin.
