I am about to see a surgeon on my right eye. So to see with my right eye again is to get the eye out of the socket and to get the center if my vision back again but what I want is the get to see 1 not 2.
At the moment I can see very well with the left and so the dominant sight. The right is not so evident so if I look at hard contrast objects I can see 2 of it. :( so it's kind of being crosseyed permanently.
If the surgery did go as planned I would have to stop driving because of confusion and many other things too. working with a computer is another shock as I can see the screen twice.
Today I can ignore the bad eye and can drive with it. So shure they can improve my right eye but will the images merge. I am frightened.:afraid: :(

Peter,

I agree, this would be scary for you, or any of us. I would have to trust the surgeon to know what he/she was doing. Is the surgery already planned? What does the doctor/surgeon tell you the results should be? I wish I knew more, but I know I'm sending you the best wishes. The eyes are very complicated aren't they? No matter what, you must be able to see so you can keep talking on DF!

No Jan, I would have to see what they are about to do and as scared that I am I could say no and just live with what I have.

Beleve me it is. If I were to under take this I would have troble walking like try walking in a doorway with you eyes cross eyed.
I hope everything goes well for you. When do you see the surgeon?
Thanks Nancy, I think that he may try to sell the idea saying "you will be fine" rutine.

Good luck buddy..... I am hoping for the best for you

Thanks. :)

Thankyou Susan. :)

Thanks Jan, I will find out what may be the case and that's the thing "may be" so it's not going to be perfect. :(
The eyes are very complicated aren't they? No matter what, you must be able to see so you can keep talking on DF!
Be sure to do that to keep you informed and the fact that your eyes are a very delicate part of your body it's very dicey.
I will see the surgeon on the 15th of this month at 2:00PM so you will be in dream land when I get to know what they will be doing.
Before I go however I have not had a bleed in a long time!! :D so that is a real plus and I guess that control is the key to my eyes health. And just remember that I have a whole day in front of America then you will know on the 15th, Your 15th of April.
Thanks Girls.

awww maaaaate, how long have you been putting up with this?
Is there a word for this procedure so we can google/wikipedia etc
Anything to do with eye treatment is frightening, so please pretend all your DF mates will be there with you asking all the right questions

I have been like this since the stroke and that's 2 years ago and I find that this is soooo scary. :afraid:

I cannot think of what name of my condition of double vision and if there is a way of cure, However this happens when I look strait ahead I can get the eyes to merge if I look at the left I see nearly together and right is near perfect.

Yes I will and the support here is really encouraging. Thanks Mate!! :D

OK I have found this and this is what I have. :(
What is Double Vision? (Binocular Diplopia)
If the two eyes are misaligned and aim at different targets, two non-matching images will be sent to the viewer's brain. When the brain accepts and uses two non-matching images at the same time, double vision results.
Wierd Aye!, So this is my vision. Now can you imagne if I had my right eye done. :(

Double vision is dangerous to survival, so, the brain naturally guards against its occurrence. In an attempt to avoid double vision, the brain will eventually disregard one of the mismatching images. That is, the brain will ignore one eye (called suppression).
And that is exactly what I have!! :(

Due to the brain's ability to suppress one eye, a person's double vision can appear to go away without medical evaluation or treatment. Bear in mind that the causes of the double vision are very likely still present and that loss of vision in one eye has probably occurred due to lack of treatment. When vision in one eye is lost, the person has also lost normal depth perception and stereo vision. However, the loss of vision could be temporary and treatable.

there is hope!! But can I afford it?
Here is where I have got this info from About double vision, diplopia, seeing double (http://www.strabismus.org/double_vision.html#causes)

Peter, hon, I know you are scared but you need to sit down with a surgeon and discuss your options. Your vision is very important. Just know that I will be thinking of you and will say a little prayer for you. Take care of yourself and know that we are here for you, even if it is just cyber-ly (Yeah, I know it's not a word. Give me a break, will ya??? LOL).
Just know that we all love you and care what happens to you. (((HUGS))) from the USA !!!!!!!!!!!!

Good Luck with the surgery. I had similar issues with my left eye but more just a "hole" in the center of my vision. It took both the laser surgery and later steroid injections but after 3 months it helped a lot. I hope your experience is similar too.

Good luck Peter, If I were you I'd work out all my questions before I went for the appointment and write them down to remind me.( I often do this evenfor routine appointments)

By the way I followed the links from your link (they referrered to strabismus) and found that the people offering advice were a group of optometrists who seemed to be very pro visual therapy (their expertise) and not very positive about surgery.

IF the surgery you're talking about is strabismus surgery I found some good info here:

Q&A with Dr. Hunter - Adults with Strabismus Service - Clinical Services - Children's Hospital Boston (http://www.childrenshospital.org/clinicalservices/Site1763/mainpageS1763P4.html)

Hi Peter,

I think you will be fine. This is pretty much the situation I am in. I am 20/40 in my left eye, corrected and 20/200+ in my right, along with the silicone oil weird refractions.

The opthamologist sent me to an optometrist after the surgery. He corrected my left eye, which sees well and put plain glass in the right lens. My brain learned to correct quickly. If the plain glass wasn't enough, he said he would put a blocking lens in my driving glasses on the right side, but it hasn't been necessary. If the light is weird, I close my right eye--I probably look like Annie Oakley sometimes.

The optho is leaving the oil in my right eye until he is sure the retina is completly re-attached. He calls it my "spare tire" eye.

Where I live, you are able to drive with only one well-working eye. You might want to check on that, it may remove some of your worry.

Here's a hug,

Mich

At least we know it's treatable, so there's a positive already.

See, there will be several of your df mates on this appointment even if in spirit. Who cares if there's not enough chairs in the waiting room, we can sit on laps & they wont even know.
I like to be casual so will sit on the receptionists desk ;)
Imagine us all there as you sit in the waiting room but please dont smile or talk to us :D
Here's hoping medicare cover all of this

Hi Peter,
I don't know much about double vision or the stroke you mentioned 2 years ago, but please know that I am with you in thoughts and prayers. I will also be one of the ones in the imaginary waiting room sitting on other's laps or at the receptionist's desk waiting for you. We'll be your support staff! :)

Hey Thankyou Guys & gals. I cannot thank you enough. :D
The non surgical maybe the way to go as I am very much in the dark of what to go on. So I will see what they say and see what the options are available to me so at this stage it's a look at what's to become. :)

Hope they can help you fix your problem.

Thankyou Alicat61, I can just see all of my DF Friends in that waiting room and some midday TV stuck in the corner as some sickly show and magazines that are several years old. If that was the case can you imagine the noise we would make. LOL
I wonder if they would put on some great ballet on the TV box and I would never get to see the doctor. Perhaps the doc would like to watch it too. :T :D
Anyway just some off topic though as there is a good ballet on ABC2 on Wednesday and it's the typical classic Swan Lake!!
Sorry mods but I must cheer up. :)
