I'm thinking of starting on the pump. I currently am taking shots, and I have no problems with the BD short needle (8mm) because I pinch the skin. Am I correct in understanding that I shouldn't pinch the skin when inserting an infusion set? I am 5'7'' and weigh 130 lbs. I have only a few locations ("love handles", butt and maybe upper thigh) where I could stick a 6mm cannula. I know the angled infusion sets are recommended, but the 13mm silhouette angled at 30 degrees will go to a depth of 6.5mm.

I'm quite a lean guy and was using the quick sets from MEdtronic which get inserted at 90 degree angle - so straight in. I had many many issues with the cannula not going in correctly,no delivery problems and soreness.

Just recently though I switched to the angled Silhouette infusion sets also from Medtronic - they're awesome and am using the Sil serter for insertion. No more pain when inserted and also the angle makes it possible to insert in thinner areas. Currently have on my love handles though which I have never tried before, and have had no issues touch wood.

I also finally got brave enough to use the Silhouettes (90 degree angle). They look wicked, but no pain going in. I had heard that most people prefer to insert them manually, so that's what I did. I had been using the 6mm quicksets (the 9mm really hurt), without too many problems. However, I'd rather never have issues (kinks), and these "sils" get much better reviews.

It sure is nice when you don't have problems with your insertion sets!

Here's another vote for the Sils (angled) sets! I'm too skinny to use 90-degree sets without them kinking. I insert manually and with the Sil-serter, and have had no trouble either way (knock on wood!).

I definitely like the Sils better than any of the 90° sets I have tried. I have been using them consistently since I started pumping 8+ years now.

NOT 90 degree angle -- that would be horrible! I shouldn't have been up so early! I think when I order my own, I'll order the 13mm instead of these really long 17mms.

i use the angled sets now after a few issues using the 90 degree sets.
i much prefer the angled ones, the comfort factor is much better. i can only use my belly, no fat on my legs or bum, no love handles (yeah some people are soooo lucky right?!)

i do pinch up some flesh when i insert my new sets, as long as it goes in at the correct angle you should have no problems ;)

I'm thin and have been using the Quick-Sets 6mm since I started pumping 2.5 years ago. I've had no problems what so ever with them.

My brother is very tall and thin. He has used the Sils for many, many years, but lately has developed scar tissue. His endo is recommending he switch over to another infusion set.

I am very thin. I was using 6mm quicksets w/no problems for 5 months and recently started getting A LOT of no delivery alarms. I've only been usings sils for nealy a week now, but have had no problems (no delivery alarms, bent canula) since using silhouettes (I'm using the 13mm sils)

I use the Sure-Ts and love them. If you do get the pump, get samples of a bunch of different kinds of sets and try them all.

6MM 90 degree Quick sets here for 1.5 years. Never had a problem. 5'7" and 140 pounds so not a lot of extra meat to insert them. Never had a kink or no pump delivery problem. I always use the inserter with no pinching of the skin.
