Hello all :)

I've been a member here for over a year now and I thought it appropriate to send some accolades out to every single member here who has helped to make the forums a fun, friendly and informative place. This group is by far the best I've ever met, and nature dictates that good people gravitate towards great people! The contributions made by all of you are invaluable to the Diabetic 'society' and I think we can all agree on the fact that this is, by far, the best Diabetic Forum on the internet. Everyone keep up the great work and keep on posting! :D

I have to mention as well, I have seen posts taken directly from this Forum and copied to other sites, which is a great indicator of how devoted we all are to helping our peers by presenting worthwhile, educational material! (and boy aren't ppl fortunate there's such a thing as Copy & Paste LOL?)

Oh great and wonderful Tony it's all because of you  !!

... When Tony started this forum, I'm sure he didn't know how big and successful it would become. Must be wonderful to see such a project grow to become a much needed place for people to learn, share and help one another and in the most friendliest and considerate way too. Where can we find that today? Thanks Tony. Long live the forum!

I am so thankful to have found this forum and to have been able to get to know the many caring members. Frankly, I don't know what I would do if it didn't exist. Yes, I do belong to other msg. boards, but this is one of my favorites if not my favorite of all. I don't think I can express enough my appreciation of this board, it really has made such a difference to me. A lot of credit is due to Tony for creating this place for us to come. if Tony hadn't started this board no one would be here in the first place. Thanks so much Tony!.

Thanks is deserved to everyone who has taken the time to help, support, advise, comfort, inform, or just had a good ear to listen. I think the members have made this board what it is. So thank-you all so much! :)

I'd like to say a huge thank you too, to Tony for letting us use this site, and for all the members who have made me feel so welcome over the last couple of months.

This place has really become a haven for me. I used to post on a t.v. message board, posting about soaps and films and dramas etc. Then I got diagnosed with diabetes, and suddenly t.v. didn't seem so important any more. I had good friends on that board, still do, but they can't provide the help and support that I need at this point in my life. I still post there, but only very occasionally - this is now the first place I log onto each day, and the one that I return to several times throughout the day. There may come a time when I won't need the support as much as I do now, but I will still visit, but right now, I don't know how I'd cope without you all. I really value the friendships that I'm making here.

thank you, Tony, and everyone, so very much http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/4/4_1_203.gif

This is indeed a wonderful forum that provides an opportunity for diabetics to share information and to help each other with support and advice. But I don't feel particularly comfortable with the need a few people have to keep saying it's the best diabetic forum there is. I belong to another diabetes forum whose members find it every bit as valuable to them as the members here do this one, and I'm sure there are many others I'm not familiar with whose members feel the same. Why do we have to compare? Let's just enjoy our own favourites for what they mean to us and benefit from the differences, if we belong to more than one.

It's true that there are posts here that have been copied to the other forum I belong to; the reverse is also true. I think that's one of the real benefits of having members who belong to more than one. It allows us to share information and, after all, we all have the same goal, even if our ideas of how best to reach that goal are different.

I, too, would like to add my thanks to Tony for making this site available to us.

Karen,
In case you missed it, the title of this thread contains the word "appreciation" and was meant for positive feedback and constructive comments about the wonderful people on this forum.

First of all, we who feel this to be the best Diabetic website there is are entitled to vocalize that appreciation without being contradicted, or having someone take umbrage with the stated positive opinions about a site that has become much like a second home to us. We are entitled to voice our opinion and expect that estimation to be valued for what it is, not opposed with such a lack of respect.
Secondly, I don't recall either myself or any other member making reference to this 'other website' you seem to be defending. It seems that I've hit a nerve, and I couldn't find any solid 'comparisons' - as you say - in any of the previous posts that would lead you to that conclusion. Had you read my post without putting a personal slant on it, you would perhaps have taken it for the simple, positive reflection of the members here that it is meant to be.
As my mother would often say to me as a child "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all".

Let's keep this thread as positive as we can and get back to the original topic please. I would like to see it continue in that vein so that people are comfortable praising their fellow members without feeling they'll 'offend' someone by stating how they feel.

Thank you!!

I just built the foundation to the house. You guys built the home. Without you guys keeping this place going we wouldn’t still be here.

An appreciation is always welcome! I started this website back in February of 2002 with the hopes that this would be the biggest and best place for someone with Diabetes to visit and call home. I’m no big wig, just an average guy with Diabetes working two jobs. When someone says they love it here and this is the best place on the web. It means a lot and that is what keeps us going here.

Tony,
Thank you for diabetes forums! Ever since my son was diagnosed, almost 1 year ago, I've been wanting to talk and ask questions to people with diabetes and with parents of diabetic children.
My husband just recently found this site and we have been on everyday since.
This site is and all of the people on it are wonderful!!
Thank you again
Nancy

Thanks to Tony for creating this site. Thanks to Tony and his moderators for making sure this site continues to be a positive and supportive environment where we can ask what we may think are silly questions, find information, and even engage in a little good-natured teasing from time to time.

I don't know anybody else who has Diabetes. I was looking for someplace to go to meet others and discuss our condition and make some new friends about a year ago, when I found this site. This place has become like a second home to me. I enjoy my time here exchanging information and talking w/ my friends and I too, think this is the best site for Diabetes on the WWW!

Tony :)

Thanks for having the insight & knowledge to start this site. I have found it very friendly & supportive during my time here. There have only been a few who seemed to critize me when I was down but the postive out weighted the negative. Please keep up the good work.

Besides all the reasons already stated for this being a wonderful forum, what I like is that it is easy to use. Whatever you are looking for is right in front of you. No going from this place to this place or trial and error to find what you are looking for. For someone like me, who was new to all of this, that help so much. I felt like I could come here, get advice or just look. I don't think I have found a site as user friendly as this one is.

Oh yeah, I guess the people are pretty great too. Always willing to lend a hand or an ear, even if they aren't able to help, they will encourage. Thanks to everyone here.

Oh Rrz....I didn't catch that one!!!!! LOL...btw I though now that school was over I could write without being graded!!!! (That is what I get for teaching what I do......I might have to pay attention to what I tell the students!!!) BUT still appreciate the help with it.....should I send you other stuff to proof?

Ditto on all the accolades to Tony. From the "new" guy perspective, this site has been better than any book I have read to date.

When Dx, as I know no one else with Diabetes, I felt very lost and alone. Where would I turn? What was I going to do? How will I ever get the hang of this thing?

Reading all the advice and positive vibes put forth by the members, has helped me to realize I am NOT alone, there is always someone out there to listen and that I can "deal".

So my heartfelt thanks, not only to Tony, but to all the folks here!

Oh man, I think I am going to cry now...

Wonderful topic Shy!!!!! I really want to say that I love this site. I have been to 2 different sites and have not felt the sense of "belonging" that I feel here. The members of this site seem to truly care about each other and our day to day struggles. I feel that without this site and the new friends I have made here(:D ), I feel as though I would be a resident of the local "funny farm". LOL J/K(no offense intended). Thank you Tony and I hope that together we can all keep this site alive for a long time to come. Tony, YOU ARE THE MAN!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hugs to Tony and all.

Been putting off commenting in this thread, because I couldn't quite put into words what I really wanted to say.

Thank you, Tony. This forum is by far the best I've visited since diagnosis, and I wouldn't trade it for any other. There's just no comparison. This is the first place I visit when I first log on, and the last place I visit before I log off.

Hugs,
Angie

Thanks, Tony and Moderators, one and All!! :)

This is an awesome forum - we've met some really great friends, and the atmosphere here is positive! It's sometimes hard to find that in this crazy world, so we're glad to have found it here! Thanks!

I seem to be in and out of here. Periodically not feeling up to "company" but, when I want frendship of those going thru the same things that I do/have and will. I find it here.

I too have to thank Tony for starting this, and the moderators who do their best to keep it pleasant.

But most, I would like to thank every member who has answered a thread with compassion, advice, experience, wisdom, and let's not forget the jokes!!!!

Take care all,
Liz

Me too, I am glad you started something here, Tony. Diabetes can be such a lonely thing. It's a pleasure to come in here most days. The advice is brilliant.

Great stuff.

a BIG thanks to you Tony... and all the moderators, I have found this site SO helpful since I have joined, as my dad isn't very computer literate I print out some of the information for him (and my mum also reads it) and he is grateful for it as well as myself!

*round of applause for all you guys* :D :D
