Hi Everyone,

I am still relatively new to this whole Diabetes things so I have a ton of questions. I tried to search for a thread on this topic, as there is likely to be one, but I couldn't find one.

Anyway, on an average day, what is your BS range? For myself, after a month, I usually range from 70-180, or so. (my endo told me 80-140 is my "target"). Once I get a handle on everything and my honeymoon ends, I hope that range will not go so high. But to you seasoned vets out there, what is your range? I need some sort of perspective.

Also, I received some good news today. My A1C results are back and after a month, it is down to 8%!! Still not normal, but better that the first one (13.5%). I am pretty happy about that!

Thanks!! :)

Congrats on the A1C lowerage... I need to get retested..

As for my levels I'm usually between 80-120 on good weeks. I try to be under 180 2hrs after meals, and can uaully do it (just tested and I'm 110 ate at 12). This week has been a roller coaster of (looks at monitor) avg 134, but thats with some lows in there and some low 200s.

Hope this helps.. Look at the signature for the meds.

Welcome! You'll find plenty of people here who can relate, and will be happy to help.

I started a thread/poll that answers half your question:

http://www.diabetesforums.com/forum/type-1-diabetes/27384-daily-bg-range.html

It doesn't give the high/low numbers, but shows the size of the swing.

Considering that A1c averages over three-ish months, and you have some pre-DX numbers in that 8% A1c, I'd say you're probably doing a really good job. :)

Welcome,

I am usually 65-100 in the mornings, 95-125 in the afternoons, and evenings from 135-175, but sometimes as low as 105 if I eat vegan soup/salad. My downfall is late night snacks that from time to time make my mornings 140-185. I am still catching myself buying chips that have 46g carbs -- I end up giving them away at work or something. You never think that Vegitarian chips would be so bad for you. Also saw how high those Japanese invisible noodles are -- forget about eating those. I am slowly bringing my A1C down.

I'm looking at my logbook as I type this. First week of diagnosis I was always above 150 (both fasting and 2hr post meals) With metformin and exercise, my readings are getting better.

After my visit with my nutriotionist, things have been really good as I learned how to count carbs (and not calories)!

As of now, my morning fasting is between 90-105 and 1 hr post food is 130-140 and 2 hr is 90-115 range. Today I had about 5-6 pieces of tandoori (grilled) chicken (at Indian restaurant) and a small piece of naan (bread) and very little rice with lentils. 1 hr after lunch I was 135 and 2 hr was 112.

Today's range was 66 to 178. Not highly unusual.

Today: 87 to 166

A bit unusual. I usually run about 20 points lower. I decided to try a slightly-smaller Levemir dose this morning... basal fade bit me toward the end of the day.

Yesterday: 53 to 133

I shot insulin too soon for a preprandial of 79, and ended up drifting to 53.

Two days before that: bad

I overcorrected into a couple nasty hypos (42 one day, 26 the previous) because I was unaware of some Levemir morning subtleties.

My range has been running a little wider while I learn the tricks of my new basal insulin.

Hello Jules. :)
From where you were is a very good resalt so be proud of yourself "Bravo" :D
We all look at the aim of 6 / 108 of BG's and there is some swing in say 4 / 72 to 10 / 180 as that may keep you happy.
Just now I have tested and see 8.5 / 153 and have just eaten so that's a good reading. :star: :)

Average day? I've had days where I've gone from 38 to 400+. Lately, I've gotten things under better control (thanks to an increase in Lantus, and a slight increase in monitoring), and 65-185 is a frequent range, with occasional hypos and a few just over 200. But there is no "average day".

Thanks everyone. Its nice to know that i'm not the only imperfect one. My upper end should be 140, but i frequently go over. As you all know, its so hard to predict and i am still trying to figure out all the ratios and correct dosage amounts. SO much to remember, its crazy!!!

There is no "perfect" in this.. Like the one signature said "My Pancreas is on strike". You'll get a hang of it and then you'll have days where your way off, and have no idea why. You're doing great though!!!

My averages are changing for the better, right now. Will that change too? Probably, but hopefully not for a while. LOL.

I've been running about 100-120 fasting in the morning. My post meal numbers go from 115-140, depending on what I've eaten. About half of my post meals have been below 120.

I'm not where I want to be yet, but I'm getting there!

fasting BG is usually 6.3/113 (i would prefer around 5/90)

pre-meals BG usually around 5.3/95 (target is 5/90)

2 hours post meal i prefer to be around 6/108

i'm no angel and i do have my ups and downs and the occasional splurge, but on the whole its not too bad ;)

your A1c was a big improvement already! keep up the good work and that will come down in no time at all.

oh...and...welcome to Df btw :D

my range lately has been between 3.5 and about 9, but im happy with anything between 4 and 7 (mmol/L)

I wish I could say I'm always between 4 and 6... that's what I like to aim for! But naturally that's just impossible for me as an insulin dependent diabetic (heck, I'd like to see a non-diabetic manage that all day lol).

I tend to sit between 4 (72) and 7 (126)most of the day - but that misses out some of my meal spikes and other times when I'm not testing. I try to avoid spikes with lower carb meals and pre-bolusing, but naturally I can't avoid 'em all. If I really did stay between 4 and 7 all the time I'd have the perfect A1c by now! I know I sometimes spike to 9 or 10 or even the odd shocker that's much higher. But that's just the nature of the big D.

Usually 75 to 105 (4.2 to 5.8).
