I think the meal I miss the most would be...

Biscuits and Gravy..... They are a huge spike for me. Just can't eat them anymore :( I went from 120/6.7 to 250/13.9 never again...
So what food do you crave the most?

My most consistent cravings are:
Twinkies
Birthday cake
Yeast rolls...or soft white bread of any kind
Cotton candy
Corn on the cob
Goodness..is it any wonder I have diabetes!!:T Actually, just typing this has probably raised my blood sugar 10 points!
So you're not doing bad to have only one thing you miss badly.

Occasionally I'll miss cake. Never been a big ice cream fan. Chocolate I found I can eat in small amounts. Had real milk chocolate yesterday right after dinner and I only went up 20 mg/dl (The massive portion of green beans probably helped out a bit too.) But that has to be what I crave the most...

I usually eat pretty much whatever I want, but I miss orange juice (or any type of fruit juice for that matter).. just can't have it.. I used to have a BIG glass w/ breakfast everyday, now I almost never ever have it... miss it...also, fruit salad.. I used to eat fruit salad for lunch almost everyday.. now it just doesn't work for me...

Mostly white bread, good proper stuff not the processed sliced stuff and roast potatoes/fries. Just made some parsnip fries and they worked out really well.

I don't miss anything! I play games with my mind, and don't want junk . . . even if I could have it. Ok then . . . . I miss bread. I could bolus for it, but I'm low carbing and haven't had bread or potatoes for quite some time. I just find other things I like. It's not healthy to feel deprived!

In N' Out Burgers....although from time to time I get one special ...."PROTEIN STYLE" --- no bun, instead wrapped in lettuce. They have a secret menu, that really isn't too secret.

Pizza. Lots and lots of pizza. And brownies. Party mix.
I eat lower carb too, so I try not to get into that sort of stuff, but I still miss it sometimes.

Homemade Portuguese sweet bread, hot out of the oven, slathered with sweet butter and homemade strawberry jam...sigh
sandy
Really good french bread.
Chinese fried rice.
Thank God I can eat Pizza.

I pretty much have a tiny bit of anything I want. But every now and then...
I'd like a great big helping of garlic mashed potatoes! Or 2-3 pieces of sourdough toast with jam. Or a huge piece of cornbread with butter and honey. Or a plate of grits with butter, salt and pepper. And oh yes, Tashia--biscuits and gravy.:D
I've learned to appreciate quality, not quantity. Mostly.;)

I can give up about anything. I do miss ice cream. If I could eat ice cream now and again it would be great. For some reason I have never been able to bolus right for it. It always comes back to bite me.

I miss being in control of my body and I miss Virginia ( the state not the girl). This may sound wierd but I miss the satifaction of drinking a cold bottle of water in one gulp, you know the diabetic craving. Ever-since I got my blood sugars below 300 I have not had the craving for water and it doesnt taste the same anymore either. I said it was wierd.

That’s not surprising. I think anyone could get addicted to water with a bg like that ;) When I stopped drinking water, the very next day I sat down at the table with my head on it, couldn’t move. After one glass of ecstasy err water I became human again and soon after ended up in hospital.
I guess what I miss most is being able to eat w/e I fancy instead of cravings for particular foods, which is why I splurge on things like nuts and chocolate once in a while, I don't crave fast food if anything my hate has grown for it.

Have you tried the Dreamfield pasta?
It hardly dents my blood sugar so far. Only 5 digestible carbs per serving and a glycemic index of 13. And - it taskes and textures like 'regular' spaghetti. Not sure I understand how it works, but am glad it does :D . I can find it at Kroger and Schnucks locally.
Dreamfields Pasta, A low glycemic index (13) and a taste everyone loves! (http://www.dreamfieldsfoods.com/diabetes-diet.html)

Just plain old bread! I would like to have a sandwich on white bread....a chunk of cornbread with my beans....biscuits for breakfast....a roll when I go out to eat.
I give in every once in awhile, but pay for it by fighting highs for a day, so I try to make sure it is worth it.

But seriously ... cinnabons, every time I walk into the local mall and I smell that aroma. Occasionally I allow myself the luxury of a half making sure I bolus appropriately, BUT I really long for the whole thing. It helps to picture it sitting on my hips!! :(

Lloyd...AIC 4.9!!! That is way too awsome!
I was never a sweet eater. But when I was diagnosed with DM, I started craving nothing but sweet things! ODD!!
Also doing the low carb, so I'm staying away from all those things.

I've been thinking hard about this one. Theres no particular food I crave. I don't really like very sweet things so I don't miss them. I eat most things such as rice, potatoes and pasta in limited (weighed) quantities. Half a thin based pizza has about 30 carbs and make a good lucnch with a salad.
What I miss is being able to eat the occasional 'over the top meal'
On our last skiing holiday before diagnosis. ( I probably had sky high BG at the time) We had a complete fondue meal:
Cheese fondue with unlimited bread,
Beef and duck fondue green salad, large dish of big fat chips(fries).
chocolate fondue with fruit, marshmallows and cake.
We had far too much and probably sent back more than we ate, but thats part of its attraction(glutonny? ). I have no idea how I would bolus for a meal like that, and its actually the fat rather than the carbs which I see as the main 'villain' in this meal.

Wonderful sourdough bread; really good chocolate cake, cherry pie. I can do well without the sweets but things like bread, pasta, rice, those are staples! I am a really great cook (so i have been told) and I miss the meals I used to make. Thank goodness summer's coming; grilling season is my friend!

Hi everyone. I'm newly diagnosed as a T2. It's been ten days or so and I'm really struggling with diet. I'm told, also, that I'm a good cook...inherited that from my mother. So far the things that I miss the most are the starches like bread, potatoes, rice and pasta. How do you eat gumbo without white rice? How do you live without pasta at least three times a week? What do you eat with steak if not a big baked potato stuffed with butter and sour cream? Giving up sweets has bothered me some, but not too much. But those biscuits and grits for breakfast......
I guess the worst part is having to cook food that I can't eat for my family. They shouldn't be deprived because of me.
Sigh...I suppose I'll get used to it, but it bites!
Rose
The thing I miss most, is just fancying something, even an apple or an orange and just picking it up and eating it.. I miss picking up a menu and choosing something with no ifs ands or buts... I miss going to the coffee shop and deciding to have a pretty num num with it...also about 10-20 other foods that were staples to me.. yes I can have small portions of them now, but I want normal portions..
One of the saddest things is that when I do taste them now, they don't taste the same at all....boo hoo
