Guys read at your own risk! :D Just thought I would warn you in advance.
Has diabetes affected your menstrual cycle? And if so how? I have had a pretty timely menstrual cycle for about 2 years now and ever since the beginning of this year it seems as though my period comes later and later. First it was 41 days, 11 days past due, then 47 days 17 days past due... now I have no idea when it's coming. You can imagine what I thought being 11 and 17 days late! I about had a heart attack!
I only wonder if it's the diabetes because I wasn't in control at all the first couple of months of this year. I was averaging 240-250(13.3)

I haven't noticed any difference in my numbers. Mine has always been pretty regular too, to within a few days. :/ You could try taking evening primrose oil, that's supposed to help regulate it.

No affect. I do tend to run high numbers for no reason about two days before my period. Then, I have a relatively "low" day meaning I almost never go above 100 regardless of what I'm eating. Then, back to normal dosage in about 3 days.

:) Hi
My periods were always iregular but I notice my BSL's are up and down with my periods. Hormone levels can effect some peoples blood sugar levels

I never noticed anything diabetes related. I was 44 when it stopped! Sometimes I forget how lucky us type 1 women can be! I was every 3 weeks though almost like clockwork until the last year. Progesterone cream (no prescription) can regulate very well.

I have never noticed any difference...always as regular as clockwork :D
There was a huge difference to me!
Apparently it's no coincidence that my early menopause came on at about the same time I began experiencing diabetes symptoms. (late twenties - far too early).
So now I'm on HRT and experiencing all the typical highs & lows of menopause mixed with the typical highs & lows of diabetes. *sigh*
Periods (or even phantom periods as I often experience these days) stuff up my BG something horrible. I'm getting a handle on it - I now know that I need an increased basal for 10 - 14 days of every month as well as a little extra Novorapid (I think those hormoes make me insulin resistant for a time??). Then I need to watch carefully, because on the day my period starts (or 'would have' started), I drop low and have to put a lot of effort in for about a day to avoid being low continuously. (OMG it's such hard work - I have to eat chocolate! Woe is me!!) From that point on I'm on lower basal again and slightly less NR too.
Diabetes definitely can affect your cycles - any health issue can do that! High blood sugars are a strain on your body, so I wouldn't be surprised if that's all there is to your late periods. If you have any doubt at all have a word with your doctor and keep your eyes open for other symptoms.
With a little luck things will go back to normal for you with better control :)

I was quite irregular cycle-wise prior to diagnosis. I started on metformin, lost weight and now i'm like clockwork. I assume the irregularities were due to insulin resistance and as that decreased, my hormone levels regulated.

Hmm interesting.
I've read that your BG can go up and down before and during your Menstrual cycle but I have yet to find anything that suggests that high BG's or not being in control can affect it. It will be interesting to see if I get back on track now that my BG are getting better.
If it isn't back to clock work I'm going to let my doctor know at my next appointment.

Eri was so regular that the doctors always had something to say about it...I mean to the day, down to the hour, every 4th Friday she'd have it. Now she's had it 3 times in the past month and she was told by the nurse at school that it is completely irregular(yeah, figured that out) and she should not be getting it that much.
Her endo even told her the "norm" is more irregular.
Her bgl's completely fluctuate during this time.

I've noticed, since I've been on Met, my periods have been heavier and my cramping a little worse. For a good long while, mostly due to my oral contraceptives, my periods were very light, with little cramping. Hey, I deserve it! My periods of adolescence were BEASTS! Unbelievable flow, devastating cramps, lasted EIGHT days! Horrible. I'd actually be sore for a day or two because my cramps were so awful.
They are regular because of the Pill, though. Even though I think there may be a conflict with the Pill and the Met, I stay on the Pill so the monster periods won't come back. My body does not need that much stress.

my periods have been around 28-30 days every month for the last few years, if anything they became more regular since having D!
but the last six months they have been more like 25-28 days, doc is sending me for hormone bloods to be done to see if i'm peri-menopausal.
body weight is well known for having an effect on our menses too ;)
