Gday all, this is my first post here so please try to be nice ;)
I'm 18 and male.
I have this terrible feeling that I'm diabetic - I often get blurred vision, dizzy, having trouble concentrating. I also drink a lot and at my last count I'd been to the toilet 4 times this hour.
When I get dizzy/cold sweats I find that I can reduce the effects by drinking water.
What's the quickest way to find out if I'm diabetic? My doctor did a urine test and came to the conclusion "No, you don't have diabetes", however I'm not satisfied with this conclusion.
I have a friend who is diabetic, but don't get to talk to him much.
Thanks for any advice.

How close are you with your friend? If you see him at all then the best thing to do is to get him to check your blood sugar, I'm sure he must have a blood testing kit.
Where abouts are you from? You could go into boots and get a free blood test if you're in the uk?
If your doctors said you're not diabetic then he should help you find out what is wrong ... because you're obviously drinking more than you think is right and not feeling too good in your self.
In my case my doctor didn't diagnose me early enough and missed alot of the signs, but if yours has done a urine test then at least he's got some idea of what your sugars are doing.
Are you going to see him/her again at all?
Oh... and welcome by the way :)

Hello DJ and welcome!
Personally, I would go back to see my doc and ask for all tests to be done. I'm not convinced a urine test should be enough to lead to any conclusions. It's scary not knowing so don't stay in the dark. You don't seem to feel well at the moment so better investigate what is the source, whatever it is. I do hope with all my heart that once all the tests are done you will be declared non diabetic. :)
Take good care now,
Marie

Hi DJ and welcome to the forum!
I agree that a urine test is not enough to rule out a diagnosis. You should definately go back to your doctor for more tests and blood work.
I hope that everything turns out ok!!

Welcome, DJ. I agree with others who say to go back to your doc. The amount of sugar in the blood and urine can vary widely throughout the day. You should have a fasting blood sugar done. Whether it's Diabetes or not, you're obviously not feeling well, so your doc needs to listen to you and help you figure out what's going on.
Take care of yourself, and let us know how you're doing,

Urine test is only valid if your blood sugar level is above 200.
If your bg is say 160 two hours after eating you could be diabetic but it will not show up in the urine untill it goes over 200. That is the point that your body trys to get rid of the excess sugar.

Welcome DJ! I would go to another doc for a second opinion if what they other doc says doesn't feel right to you. Since he didn't take blood as the others said, it isn't always easy to find with one simple urine test.
