Starbucks is swill! That being said any coffee that isn't charred, um, burnt. um, roasted to the point that its bitter, and has a good flavor you should be able to drink with out sweetener. Personally, I'd start with a mild breakfast blend or drink French Pressed coffee at your locally owned coffee shop or made at home and skip the Starbucks.'
but thats my opinion ;)

My favorite carb free coffee I drink I make at home:
Coffee + 3 packs of splenda + ice + a small amount of vanilla extract.
Everything I drink at Starbucks has plenty of carbs.

But he lives in Seattle. :D You can't go to anything but Starbucks, especially if you're a teen, which I think he is...right?
My kids hang out at Starbucks with their friends, doing homework and drinking coffee together.
My personal faves at Starbucks are the Breakfast Blend, House Blend, Light Note Blend, the new Pike Place Roast (if you like it a little bolder), and at Christmas time the Christmas Blend.
You can also get decaf-nonfat (or soy)-lattes for very little carbs.
Go to their website and they have a nutrition guide, where you can customize your drink there (for lattes, mochas, iced drinks, etc.), as well as a pdf specifically for the pastries at the store you go to.
I only went there once, and I can't recall what I ordered at Starbucks at all. Some sort of ordinary, overpriced but decent coffee--and I have traveled around and sampled the great local coffees--Jamaican coffee directly from the blue Mts., Kona coffee picked and roasted that morning, and tasted on the hillsides of Mt. Mauna Kea on the Big Island--so I DO know my coffees! Starbucks did not seem bad at all--I just put in some milk and Sweet & Low--so sue me! I do however remember the searching eyes and the pleased smile of the blind date I was meeting there when she saw me. We talked until the coffe was cold, and then for 2 more hours. We're now engaged... I LIKE Starbucks!

I usually get herb tea. My favorite one there is peppermint. I know, I know....boring.

Since dx, my current *Bucks fave is a venti ice brewed coffee made with non-fat milk and no syrup/sugar... :T
I'm sure it's taboo, but I don't do it all that often! (Before dx, I ate their cookies, pastries, sodas, muffins, bagels, and only the wipp-cremed, breve (half-and-half) syrupy concoctions, mistos, lattes, cappas, frappas, etc., etc.) ...So I'm pointed in the right direction now, I guess. ;)

Just a usual Flat white does me fine, no sugar, no sweetening. :)
Having said that, i got hooked on the abnormal but absolutely divine Gingerbread Latte (ewwww i know it sounds weird, but oh so good!) in New York last year. I was bolusing around 3-4 units for just one!
I usually get teh iced teas as well... Yea yea, another boring one :P

OK I have to confess to loving Caramel Macchiato - light on the caramel - fall/winter hot but in spring/summer iced. So far I do well with bolusing 27ish for Tall and 35 for a grande. In summer I have to bolus less because I tend to run low then anyway. I try to stick to no more than once a week! :coffee:

I mean 2.7 ish for a tall and 3.5 for a grande!
Not Starbucks... but, if you want some good coffee... Cafe du Monde coffee with chicory root. Mix in condensed milk or soymilk, perhaps a little stevia, and serve over ice.
I generally avoid coffee, though. I can't speak to the weak toilet water most people call "coffee", but Eddy-strength stuff usually does wicked things to Eddy's blood sugar even when there's no carbohydrate added.
Without extra insulin, hourly increases of 35 mg/dL are common; 55 mg/dL isn't unheard of. If I shoot insulin, it can't be too fast-acting, or I'm likely to go hypo with quickness.
I suppose I could try decaf, but where's the fun in that? ;)

Cafe americano with a touch of half and half. No sugar, none, never. I do sometimes just drink a nice cup of black coffee. I don't really like Starbucks, I usually go to another local place if I am buying coffee. But ordinarily we make it at home. I grind my own beans and brew in a Cuisinart machine. It make a decent coffee that rivals any of the coffeehouses I've tried and I am certain it saves us a fortune!

I use an insulin:carb ratio of 1 unit:10g carb - thus for a tall caramel macchiato which is about 25 -27 g carb, the 2.7 units of insulin - although I have to admit to getting the grande (34 - 35g carb) more often - what can I say, I'm addicted! :embarasse

I would drink water if I didn't want a caffienated drink.
Starbucks has all their nutrition info online, so if I decide what I'm going to drink before I go, I'm good.
I find an extended/square bolus works best over 30-60 minutes depending on how much I plan on savoring it.

Not only does Starbuck's products have lots of carbs but the taste is much too strong and way too expensive. I tried it twice at an airport but never again! For me it is an absolute waste of money. I use instant coffee at home, one teaspoon with one teaspoon of Cremora. Three carbs. tastes just right, to me.

and how did you know i live in seattle?
Because when you first signed up here you had your location in your profile. :) I don't know if you're in high school or college, because you've never said...but you have said that you are on your parents' insurance, and have IIRC posted that you asked for your mom's okay on something, so I assume high school. :)
Sometimes having an eidetic memory can be bad...

No Starbucks for me, they are hardly around here anyway, (so far... but they are marching in). I do love a good caffe latte, skinny or soy, preferably by some local italian cafe barrista who doesn't overdo it and cleans their machine regularly.
I bolus for the milk. Caffeine does seem to have a (random) upward effect on my BG, so I (should) try and keep them to a minimum.

Cafe Americano is good, barely any carbs.
I usually order a latte with soy milk, sugar free carmel, and an extra shot of expresso. Usually about 1 unit will cover the larger size :)

I never drink at Starbucks, and don't really bother that much with the cold drinks I buy out, as I learnt to inject one unit of insulin for every teaspoon of sugar that'll probably be in it (about 3 units for every big cup of Coca Cola for example) just before drinking, which doesn't bring my blood sugar up high.
That said, I tend to make my own hot chocolate at home, to my awsome recipe that makes a delicious creamy instant hot chocolate, using sweetners.

I only drink there Unsweet Passion Fruit Ice Tea. Unsweet meaning made with water instead of the lemonade.
Its only good cold...hot is nasty!
They sell it in grocery stores now.

Luckily the nearest Starbucks is about 500kms away in Paris. I checked they're definitely on the march, about 30 in Paris and one in Lyon  )
I normally have a Grande creme. My favourite cafe serves it as a large expresso served with a little jug of hot milk.
I normally have one after shopping in the market and often on the verge of a hypo. The milk is just enough to up my BS level.:)

I would drink water or a herbal tea :D as caffeine tends to raise my bg. I have really got into herbal teas since becoming a diabetic and have found a huge selection in different qualities.
You wany how much for a cup of coffee????
That's more than the price of gasoline.
And to me it's not very good coffe at that.

Ahhh - now there's a coffee drinker that I can understand.
I do coffee at home in Yama vacuum maker - like the french press - and grind with hand burr grinder. The local Chicago roaster I order online is Intelligentsia Coffee & Tea. Their signature blend is Black Cat - nice and potent and delicious.
I do Starbucks maybe a dozen times a year and order double short, homo, no foam latte. I couldn't tell you what the carbs are - I guess I haven't learned the value of carb counting, and, as I am usually at Starbucks after breakfast on the way to work and my next hit of insulin is lunch - what can I do? I drink the latte, and... maybe go high for a while.
Oh, well. I guess my manner to manage eating has been learned over the years - that if you eat too much, you MUST eat less next time you eat. The modern way seems to be - do a hit of insulin to match your aggressive eating. I do that sometimes - but not often. I come from the days of one shot lente per day. So, I managed around the testape color - yellow, I could eat, green, I could watch and maybe nibble. I know, I know - you guys think one shot lente was no management and quite impossible - what can I say - it was animal derived lente for 30 years. Now it is designer humalog and lantus for the past 4 years.

heh. Absolutely nothing in Coffee-ville can equal the visual presentation and entertainment provided by observing java being brewed in a vacuum maker! (It's also my second-favorite methodology for home coffee prep!)
I think that during this summer though, I'm going to re-visit the Toddy and start making my own ice brew coffees from concentrate?! :)

I'm not a coffee drinker and they don't sell soft drinks so there's no diet coke. That leaves me with water.

I get an Iced Americano (sp?) hold the heavy whip, sugar free syrup (hazel nut or carmel are my favorite) and a bit of half n half and 1 splenda. Doesn't really have an impact on my sugar and its pretty tasty. :)

"The View" had a segment on Starbucks this week. Starbucks was getting reamed for adding carbs to the iced coffees when people didn't realize...they just published, or are starting to post their nutritional info in the stores.
You have to ask for a sugar-free iced coffee. Most people thought it was already "just coffee"...but they add a syrup. I think the coffee was 80 calories, but don't know how many carbs...normally that would be about 10 carbs or so.

Only ever been to Starbucks once and the coffee was awful!!
I prefer a nice Italian style coffee house in Derby and just have an Americano with semi skimmed and no sugar ever mmmmmmmmmmmmmm plus the waitresses are really cute, much better looking than the munters at Starbucks

Interesting... their nutritional information for each specific store has been online for at least 5 years, that I know of. I know that the stores I go to have a binder full of the nutritional information, one binder for beverages and one for pastries. Maybe in Washington they have that easily available?
